Weather spotter
training to be held in
Richland, Halfway
The community is
invited to attend a Severe
Weather Spotter Training
and Flood Fight Workshop
co-sponsored by Baker
County Emergency Man-
agement and the National
Weather Service (NWS).
The fi rst training session
is slated for Thursday, Feb-
ruary 11th at the Halfway
City Hall, 155 East Record
Street, Halfway Oregon in
Baker County. The session
will begin about an hour
after the council’s 5 p.m.
start and will last 1 to 1.5
hours.
The next training session
is slated for Friday, Febru-
ary 12th at the Richland
City Hall, 89 Main Street,
Richland Oregon in Baker
County. The session will
begin about an hour after
the council’s 10 a.m. start
and will last 1 to 1.5 hours.
Everyone is invited. If
you are a current weather
spotter, fi refi ghter, law
enforcement specialist,
land management em-
ployee, emergency services
technician, transportation
operator, outdoor recre-
ationalists, or just purely
a weather enthusiast, this
training workshop is for
you.
Spotter training will
include defi nitions and
climatology of severe
weather, training on cloud
and storm recognition,
storm hazards and safety
tips, and weather report-
ing procedures. The Flood
Fight workshop will cover
equipment, procedures,
and safety tips when deal-
ing with fl ood events.
Across Eastern Oregon,
over 100 volunteer weather
spotters and cooperative
observers provide valuable
weather information which
is fundamental in helping
the NWS protect lives and
property. Forecasts are
often based on observer
data, and even warnings
for severe weather have
been issued based on
information received from
trained volunteer spot-
ters, cooperative observers
and/or relayed by a HAM
operator.

Sheriff's Offi ce wishes
to remind community
members to be responsible
when it comes to driving
while impaired.
Deputies of the Baker
County Sheriff's Offi ce
will be working extended
patrol shifts in an attempt
to prevent and apprehend
impaired drivers.
The extra hours that the
Patrol Deputies work are
funded by a grant through
Oregon Department of
Transportation (ODOT).
The Deputies primary
focus during the extended
hours are removing
impaired drivers from the
roadways and enforcing
unsafe driving practices.
Please don't drive while
impaired and have a safe
