The Lion’s Park in down-
town Huntington got a
spring makeover this past
week in preparation for
the coming summer tourist
season starting with the
31st Annual Catfi sh Derby
starting today through
Memorial Day.
Lion’s Club members
worked on putting up a
new sign, painted by
Lioness Wendy Grey,
which lists all the events
happening here in Hun-
tington in 2015.
The lawn was mowed by
Lion Conway Lewis and
weed and feed was admin-
istered by Lion Mike
Raney. Lionesses Wendy
Grey and Eileen Driver
along with Lion President
Allan Driver sanded down
all the picnic tables and
painted them a gleaming
white.
The paint for the picnic
tables was donated by
Mayor Travis Young, who
when it came up for auc-
tion at the Chamber
auction on May 2, an-
nounced, “I will bid on
this if the Lion’s will use
it to refurbish the picnic
tables.”
Several resounding
yeses where heard from the
Lion’s Club members pres-

ent and the deal was done.
The cook shack has
been scrubbed clean after
its long winter sleep and
is going to get a new roof
in the coming weeks. Jack
at J & M Country Store
trimmed all the hedges and
the Park looks cool and
inviting once again.
Work on the park will
continue through the
summer with plans to also
reroof the Lion’s shed and
refurbish the park benches.
When not being used
for local events, the Lion’s
Park is available for wed-
dings, family reunions or
every-day picnics.
The Lion’s club would
like to remind everyone
that dogs are very welcome
in the park however they
must be kept on a leash
and cleaned up after by
their owners, so please
carry baggies for this
purpose.
The Lion’s Club would
like everyone to “join us
in celebrating summer and
enjoying Lion’s Park this
weekend and all the week-
end’s to come.”
