10 — THE BAKER COUNTY PRESS FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2015 Local BHS has ‘Fun Fest’ Ash Grove gets awards Each year Ash Grove Cement Company recog- nizes the one manufactur- ing facility that exemplifi es more than any other the company’s ambitious goal to have safety ingrained as part of the daily work culture. For 2014, Ash Grove’s Durkee, Oregon, plant won the top honor in the company’s annual L.T. Sunderland Safety Excel- lence Award competition. The Ash Grove Durkee, Oregon plant also won top honors in the company’s annual Maintenance Excel- lence Program (MEP) competition for 2014. The other plants, which were fi nalists, were in Leamington, Utah, and Midlothian, Texas, cement manufacturing plants and the Rivergate lime plant in Portland, Oregon. Awards are given out annually. This year marks the fi rst time the Durkee plant has won the L.T. Sunderland Safety Excellence Award. The Leamington plant won this award three times pre- viously. Midlothian and the Rivergate lime plant each have won the award once previously. “Winning the L.T. Sun- derland Safety Excellence Award is an honor for our team,” said Durkee Plant Manager Terry Kerby. “We work hard on our ongoing commitment to the safety of each and every employ- ee here, and winning this award is evidence of our efforts.” Kerby also said, “Win- ning another Ash Grove award for operational effi - ciency refl ects well on our entire team.
