BHS has ‘Fun Fest’ Ash Grove gets awards
Each year Ash Grove
Cement Company recog-
nizes the one manufactur-
ing facility that exemplifi es
more than any other the
company’s ambitious goal
to have safety ingrained
as part of the daily work
culture. For 2014, Ash
Grove’s Durkee, Oregon,
plant won the top honor in
the company’s annual L.T.
Sunderland Safety Excel-
lence Award competition.
The Ash Grove Durkee,
Oregon plant also won top
honors in the company’s
annual Maintenance Excel-
lence Program (MEP)
competition for 2014.
The other plants, which
were fi nalists, were in
Leamington, Utah, and
Midlothian, Texas, cement
manufacturing plants and
the Rivergate lime plant in
Portland, Oregon.
Awards are given out
annually.
This year marks the fi rst
time the Durkee plant has
won the L.T. Sunderland
Safety Excellence Award.
The Leamington plant won
this award three times pre-
viously. Midlothian and the
Rivergate lime plant each
have won the award once
previously.
“Winning the L.T. Sun-
derland Safety Excellence
Award is an honor for our
team,” said Durkee Plant
Manager Terry Kerby. “We
work hard on our ongoing
commitment to the safety
of each and every employ-
ee here, and winning this
award is evidence of our
efforts.”
Kerby also said, “Win-
ning another Ash Grove
award for operational effi -
ciency refl ects well on our
entire team. Our employ-
ees work hard to maintain
and improve costs so it’s
very satisfying to see their
efforts recognized.”

THE NONPARTISAN
MOVEMENT ISN’T WHAT
THEY’RE TELLING YOU.
1-63 changes
Baker County
Commissioner
positions to
nonpartisan.
Sounds good?
Think again.
Here’s what
1-63 really does:
• You will KNOW LESS ABOUT CANDIDATES.
Their political affi liations will be cloaked.
• We will LOSE MUCH OF OUR REPRESENTATIVE
LOCAL CONTROL over the replacement process when
Commissioners resign.
• Nonpartisan races historically have LOWER VOTER
TURNOUT, not higher, as 1-63 proponents claim.
