Colleen Frances Brady
Atkinson
Baker City, 1931-2015
Colleen
Frances
Brady
Atkinson
passed away
at her home
on January 8,
2015 in the
Colleen
presence of
Atkinson
family after a
struggle with
cancer.
She was born on March
23, 1931 to Ralph and
Mary Brady. She had an
older brother, Hugh Brady,
and a younger sister, Elea-
nor Brady (Skelton). Her
father was a Union Pacifi c
telegrapher and the family
resided in the depots in
Orchard and Kuna, Idaho.
Colleen graduated from
Kuna High School in
1948 and attended Maryl-
hurst College in Portland.
After her marriage to Leo
Compton in 1949, the
couple moved from Kuna
to Richland, Oregon where
Leo taught school. By this
time, Mary Jo and Brian
had been born.
The family moved to
Baker, Oregon in 1953
where they lived for 11
years. During that time,
Jeff, Matt, Tom and Chris
were born. The family at-
tended St. Francis de Sales
Catholic Church; the chil-
dren attended the Catho-
lic school. In 1964, the
family moved to Nampa,
Idaho. After two years,
they moved to Boise,
Idaho where they lived
for several years. The
children attended Bishop
Kelly High School.
Colleen attended nearly
every sports event her
children participated in
including, but not limited
to: track, football, baseball
and wrestling. She and
Leo divorced in 1977.
In 1981, Colleen met
John P. Atkinson, from
Baker City, Oregon and the
couple wed in July 1982.
Colleen was a talented
and prolifi c artist and a
gifted singer throughout
her life. In Baker City,
she was active in the St.
Francis de Sales choir and
in the larger community
choir. She continued to
sketch and paint, creating
cards for each person’s
birthday and anniversary
in the family. She was
an avid sports fan, keep-
ing track of stats for her
favorites: Notre Dame,
Seahawks and the Steelers
in football; Mariners in
baseball. She golfed for
many years, even achiev-
ing a hole in one in the
1990s.
She was kind and gener-
ous to those who needed
help; she was a champion
listener and a loyal friend.
She had a quick wit and
a dry sense of humor.
Colleen was a devoted
Catholic her entire life
and her faith sustained her
throughout her life and in
her bout with cancer. She
was stalwart and stoic; she
lived and died with grace
and courage.
Colleen leaves behind
her dear sister and best
friend, Eleanor Skelton,
her beloved husband, John,
her children: Jo Compton
and Dee Wilson, Brian
Compton and wife, Pam,

many step grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death
by her parents, her brother,
Hugh Brady, her grand-
son, Doug Werts, and her
great granddaughter, Mary
Werts. She was blessed in
life and in her dying by her
friends and community.

Company Pioneer Chapel.
Her rosary was at 10:00

11:00 a.m. at St. Francis
de Sales in Baker City.
Graveside services were
at 1:00 p.m. Thursday,
January 15 at Morris Hill
Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
The family is grate-
ful for the diligence and
compassion of her hos-
pice team in Baker City
and for the many dear
friends and caregivers
who shared their time,
fl owers and prayers with
her. They suggest memo-
rial contributions be made
to the Catholic homeless
shelter, Guadalupe House,
through Gray’s West &
Company Pioneer Chapel,
1500 Dewey Ave., Baker

BHS wrestlers enter
dual season
The Bulldogs are now
entering the dual season.
Over the next month we
will have another 10 duals.
Tuesday is our fi rst league
dual vs Ontario and then
we have a home match on
Friday against Grant Union
and Imbler starting at 4:00
p.m.
We can do a pretty good
job of fi lling the weight
classes, which has been
one of our goals since the
beginning of the season.
The other is to have every-
one eligible. This is going
to help us in the GOL race
as this is going to be the
tightest race I have seen
between Baker, Ontario,
Mac-Hi, and LaGrande.
Ontario and Mac-Hi have
the numbers and everyone
has a handful of tough
wrestlers.
In New Plymouth the
Bulldogs went 1-1, losing
a close match to New
Plymouth 44-36 and then
defeating Emmett 48-21.
Wrestlers that competed
well were James AhHee,
Logan Valentine, Dylan
Feldmeier, Peter Baker,
and Will Goodwin. They
all went 2-0 on the day.
Jace Hays and Marco Vela
both lost exciting match-
ups to New Plymouth's
better wrestlers. Hays
lost to Austin 8-6 and Vela
had built a 6-2 lead over
Travis, but Travis caught
him in a throw on the edge
of the mat and was able
to hold on for the 1pt win.
Nick Blair and Elijah Ban-
ister did their job against
New Plymouth which was
to not get pinned. If they
can do that against very
tough opponents, it gives
our team a chance to win
the close duals.
