(Continued from first page) fellers drill, fellers from the colledge, and I tell you what I felt proud of old Oregon when I seen sich a fine lot of students lerning an eddication, lerning to survey, to drill, to farm and do all kinds of bizziness, and girls too, lots of girls lerning to be good wimmen and good wives. I seen Doctor Withycombe first and he took me out and showed me the students in th.e dairy tending to the milk, in the labrytry lerning about chemistry, out on the farm lerning to farm and do all useful things. Then he showed me the place where they want ed to put up a new building . pervided the referendum does not get in its dedly vork and stop it. And I said to Dock how is it the granges is talking of stopping the work of advancing the colledge when you are trying to make good farmers to hed the granges, and Dock sed I give it up, but mebbe they wont do it, and all Oregon should rise up and see that the munney to make the improvements is fourth coming at once or as soon as possibel. Then I went over to see President Kerr and the board of regents in action, and they was awful busy at work and I cood only say Hello to sum of em. and ask Mister Herr a phew words about the curry culem and the chance of my being el- lected a ornery member of the Alum Nigh society at the OAC, and he sed he thought I cood considder myself a mem ber to onct, wich is a grate honnor. Then again I went over to Doctor Withy combe and he took me out to show me a new Gravenstien Bull what he had just bought, and he was a beauty, and he also had a pig 11 foot long what ways 750 pounds in his stocking feet. Then I sashayed round the town of Corvallis a while to see the hull town, but sence my last vissit two years ago it has growed so swift that I got lost out among the new houses. But I seen enuff to say that some day in the neer future sum of the other towns in the state will awaken up to find that Cor vallis has outgrqwed em, and that it is the biggest place on the William ' Met river except Portland. The horsemen of the city and county are now making arrangements to hold a big three day's race meet at the ; track here on June 2, 3, 4, the time at which the Grand Army Encampment will visit Corvallis. The plan is to have special attractions each day of the meet and to make the. purses large enough to secure the best possible entries. Subscriptions have been raised for this purpose and the added gate receipts and entrance fees will make up prizes well worth win ning. Parties at Independence, Albany, Eu gene and other , places on the Valley circuit have signified their willingness to bring their best horses here for the meet and there are several fast steppers right in Corvallis that will add to the excitement, R. F. Baker having a colt that gives splendid promise and 'Gene Tatori a bunch which will be hard to beat, while Kiger's "Pilot Lane" has already shown his speed." Such a meet will be a big event for Corvallis and draw a crowd here that is always noted for liberal spending. There will be match races at the Driving Park this" afternoon and some good sport is looked for.
