Sophomores Begin On Winning Season
One Ashland basketball team
has a winning streak; yes, it can
happen.
Sophomore basketball coach
Arlan Foote has a three-game
winning streak and the players
feel that they can't be beaten.
The wins came against Rose
burg, Crater and Klamath Falls.

A new wrestling hopeful, Mel

J.V. Heavyweight for next
Thursday's match with Rose

revenge from the Grizzlies after
being defeated at Ashland on

At 6-6, Vince Oredson is usually
quite easy to spot in a crowd.
With this next tallest teammate
listed at 6-2, Vince is unusually
easy to spot on the Ashland High
Basketball squad.
"It puts a little more pressure
on me being the only real tall
player. I have to go to the boards
more." said Oredson who speaks
quietly, but deliberately.
Originally from Ashland,
Oredson moved to California and
went to Canoga Park High School
as a sophomore. After a year on
their varsity team he moved back
to Ashland.
Oredson sees Roseburg, with
B-7 Rich Parsons, as being the
toughest team in the conference.
Oredson speaks calmly about
Parsons. "He's not as fast as
(Jeff I Bradford from Klamath
but he's lough. He goes to the
basket well," said Oredson.

season.
Last year the Grizzlies de
feated the Indians in Roseburg by
a 28-32 score, and this year will be
looking to better it.
Since both 106 pounders have
dropped wrestling, the Bruins
will be down by 12 points before
the match starts.
Over Teammates
Is Oredson going to continue
basketball in college? "It de
pends a lot on a scholarship. I'd
like to get out of town even if I
don't play basketball. Preferably
to University of Oregon," said
Oredson.

the Grizzlies will be trying to
improve on that record tonight
when they travel to the Roseburg

The Grizzlies have not won in

Roseburg is currently ranked

Season Begins Slow
By giving away 12 points every
time they have a match the
pressure is on the wrestling team
to make up these points.
The points come from forfeits
at 106 and 191 pound weight
classes. In the past years, the
Grizzlies have always had a full
team but this year is different.
The win-loss record is 4-8-1 but
there are several wrestlers that
are possible placers at the dis
trict match.
Among these are heavy weight
Charlie Taylor, Rick Sinclair,
John Studebaker, and sophomore
Bill Emery. These wrestlers all
won first places at the recent
Phoenix Tourney. Ron Port wood.
Brad Studebaker and Terry Ellis
all won second places.
Brad Studebaker is backed up
by junior Curt Wine who has lost
a J.V. match this year but cannot
break into the varsity because
the more experienced Studebak
er holds the spot.
