No. 6 the building is now Fall Athletes The victorious Greek athletes descended Mount Olympus to crowds shouting praise. Ashland High athletes descended the bleachers to receive their praise, also. Athletes received awards in either football or cross country at an awards assembly Monday, Decern ber 11. In cross country, Scott Stude baker and Jay Holland were designated as Most Valuable Members. Mark Farrell received the Most Inspirational award while Dan Morgan achieved the Most Improved status. Sophomore football Coach Dick Kromminga gave out awards to those sophomores who stuck it out and finished the season. In varsity football, individual awards went to Rick Frischman, Pete Gray, Dan Jarrell, Andy Hunger ford Travels Europe With Family Oh, w ho can express the joy of traveling and meeting new peo ple? No one can express these joys, but Nancy Hungerford is experi encing some of this in Europe. Nancy, an Ashland High stu dent, is presently in England with her family. Her father. Dr. Joe Debaters Await Debater's tentatively have two tournament coming up next month. One will be held at SOC and the other, a cancellation carried over because of bad weather, will be at Oregon Col lege of Education. No definite dates have been set for either tournament. Coach John Tredway expresses his hope that "students and citizens in Ashland will take the opportunity provided by the SOC tournament" to attend an event which lie described as "really Ashland High School, Ashland, Ore. up, ready for siding to go on. Honored At Assembly Lonch. Marty McDougall, Charles Taylor, Daryle Torresan, Mark Walter, Mark Wilson and Mel Winner. Seven players from Ashland Dan Jarrell and Mark Walter are praised by football Coach Lance Locke as coaches look on. The Awards Banquet was held December to honor fall sports athletes. Hungerford. is taking his sabba tical in Europe, so he took his family along also. For a week Nancy's family traveled in France and did some sightseeing. Nancy enjoyed France and said, "I regret that our visit was so brief." However, Nancy plans on returning to France this winter to do some SOC Tournament exciting." Debaters will be working over time in order to get in as much practice as possible in prepara tion for their upcoming tourna ments. Since many debaters are involved in the drama production their practices have just this week become especially concen trated. According to Coach Tred way, for the next month the debaters will be working not only during debate class but also after school and evenings if necessary. December 211. I!I72 Frame of New Gymnasium Beginning to Take Shape Over the past few weeks most students have probably noticed the skeleton of the new girl's gym slowly taking shape. The entire pre-fabricated shell should be finished shortly after Christmas. At that point work w ill begin on the interior. The inside will feature a gym floor with mark ings for a standard girl's basket ball court, one volleyball, and three badminton courts. In addi tion to the gym the building will were picked for All-Conference. On offense they were Lonch, line backers; Taylor, middle guard; Torresan and Winner, tackles; and Walter, end. skiing. Nancy liked the French people very much and said that they are very nice to the tourists. She said, "It was difficult for me to speak French all the time, but I think that I did it very well, thanks to Mrs. Simon (Ida Simon Ashland High Teacher l." The Ashland high student council selected Dave Koch and Tamara Stubblelield as Teen's of the month for November. Koch was selected for his outstanding work with the Jail band, while Miss Stubblelield was selected for her work on the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Joyeux Noel (French) have five restrooms and a storage room on one end with additional storage area above the restrooms. The building, according to vice-principal Oscar Silver, is behind schedule because of delay in approval by engineers, and because of strikes in California. Mr. Silver added that the building will probably be completed by the end of February. Band, Choir Hold Concert A Christmas atmosphere pre vailed last night as the Ashland High School Band and Choir began their 1972 Winter Concert. The Band featured a trumpet trio that consisted of Joe Al bachten, Dave Millward. Fritz Winnecke and John Tomas, ac companist. Also, a trombone quartet that featured Dave Koch, Brad Kitt ridge, Mark Kelly and Mark Williams. The Choir accented the Cham ber Choir which sang numerous Christmas carols. Newcomers Met A new organization, the "New comers Club," has been formed. Its purpose is "to help new girls get acquainted more easily" according to Mrs. Margaret Zwick, advisor. Lucy Bodilly organized the club. She is a new student and thought AHS could use a new comers club. The club seems to be off to a slow start since there are only four members. However, Mrs. Zwick stated, "The club will be available this year to show new girls around and help them get acquainted."
