Lady Bears To Host Tri-meet
The girls' gymnastics team will
host a triangular meet against
Thurston of Springfield and
Crater of Central Point tomor
row, February 19, at 1:00 p.m.
Crater High has returning
team members in Rhonda Brilt
san, Vinnie Carman, Candy
Johns, Sue Pedersen, Teresa
Smith and Krista Wilson. Their
strength lies in floor exercise and
vaulting competition.
Miss Smith, their all-around
competitor this season, has been
averaging 20.0 in AA competition
this year compared to Pam
Hoffburh's 21.62 average so far
this season. Crater had four girls
place at district and attend the
state competition of which Miss
Smith is the only returning
gymnast.
They feel Lakeview is the team
to beat because the Honkers'

Thurston's returning gymnasts
include Kathy Anderson, Paul
ette Basaraba, Sharron Berzel,
Sue Byers, Nikki Gilbert and
Becky Weber. Their strength also
lies in floor exercise and vaulting
although they have depth in all
the events.
Thurston's Ail-Around
Miss Basaraba is their all
around performer. She averages
5.5 per event and 22.0 total. Miss
Basaraba has the "experience,
difficulty and desire to win,"
commented Thurston's coach,
Sheralind Haas. Miss Basaraba
placed seventh on the unevens
and floor exercise at district and
teammate. Miss Gilbert, placed
sixth on the bars but no one
attended State due to the fact that
it is a "very tough district."

The Grizzlies proved their poten
tial by beating the Pels earlier in
the season and hope to repeat
that performance.
Lewis High Scoring Guard
The Junior Varsiy is led by high
scoring guard Charlie Lewis.
Lewis is complimented by rugged
Tony Testerman and hustling
Don Sorenson. Testerman is one
of the leading rebounders and
Sorenson a real scrapper on
defense.
