From there. Miss Hoffbuhr went on to state, where she fin ished twelth. Miss Hoffbuhr was introduced to gymnastics in the seventh grade, joining the high school team in the ninth grade. In her first year in gymnastics, she competed in floor exercise. Last year she decided to start on the balance beam. This year she hopes to go all-around. Means of Self-expression Miss Hoffbuhr said she likes "the balance beam and the floor exercise because they serve as a means of self expression. I de cided to take up the bars and vaulting to gain experience on all the equipment." Two hours of Miss Hoffbuhr's day are spent in practice. During the last two weeks of June, she attended the United States Gym nastic Federation Camp at Pacific University in Forest Grove. Ski Team The ski team is in need of a coach. Arrangements are being made with the Mt. Ashland Ski School to obtain a certified ski instructor. Last year's coach. Forbes Rogers, is not available this year. Any freshman, sophomore, junior or senior is elegible for the ski team. The ski season lasts from the first of January to the end of March. "Freedom" Event Deadline Is Set Students may now enter the Voice of Democracy Speech Contest. The theme for this year's contest is "My Responsibility to Freedom". The entry deadline date is December 15, 1971. Speeches will be judged on positive approach and interpretation of the theme. All entries must be taped and may not be less than three nor more than five minutes long. The winner of the contest on the school level will receive a $25 savings bond. They were voted on by Student Council November 18. News Christmas Concert The band and chorus has plan ned a Christmas concert for De cember 14. The concert, under the direction of Mr. Moore and Mr. Maddox, will be held in the gym at 7:30. Financial Aid Forms Students who are applying for scholarships or financial assist ance must secure the green finan cial aid forms from Mr. Mearns office. These are due February 1st and one form must be filled out and returned to Mr. Mearns for each college named on the S.A.T. registration form. Elks Leadership Brochures for Elks Leader ship must be into Mr. Mearns' office by 3:30 December 3rd to be considered. GRA The Girls Recreational As sociation meets every other Mon day night in the AI1S gym in order that girls may participate in various activities or make up time for P.Ii. So far they have played such games as basketball, volleyball and badminton. They group plans to swim at SOC later this year. Students who are interested are told by daily announcements when the representatives are coming. Artwork The artwork displayed in the office halls have been done by approximately 25 students from both the Art In the Home and Crafts classes. "We are trying to spread the art around so more people can see it," commented Mr. Straus.
