Mr. Kenneth Darling has
launched a reading program for
students who wish to improve
their reading ability. The
program is optional and is
included as part of the English
classes.
Any student who wants to
learn to read better may take a
test to determine the area in
which he needs the most
improvement.
Meets Individual Problems
He then embarks upon a
program designed for his
particular problem. For
example, a speed reading
program might be used to help
people improve their reading
speed.
One program that may be
implemented involves a
combination of teaching
techniques. Whereas many
instructors employ a method
which emphasizes either the
visual or audio aspects of words,

Darling uses a multi-modal
approach.
"All-senses" Approach
The student sees, says, hears
and writes various words so that
a specific sight, sound, feeling
and movement is associated with
each word.
At present. Darling's reading
program is in the experimental
stage but it will soon be put into
effect of a school-wide basis so
that any student can participate
and benefit from it.
