carrying them out properly.

Witchcraft is found in many forms: voodoo, ESP, satanism,
demonology, and sorcer. There are also two types of witchcraft,
black and white. Black magic is used to hurt or kill an enemy; white
magic is used to cure diseases, relieve pain, change the weather, and
to attract lovers. This article examines white magic.
Many people believe that covens (bands of witches) are only made
up of young people. However, many covens are made up of
middle-aged people who come from all walks of life. It must also be
made clear that spirits, good or evil, do not play a part in witches'
rituals.
Before the esbat (witches' meeting) begins, the witches must
decide what works (feats or spells) they are going to accomplish, and
what type of magic they will use. Witches can only conjure up a
limited amount of power a night, about enough for three works. To
produce or release the power needed for a work, the witches must
dance and chant before the feat can be performed. After the work
has been completed, the witches must replenish the energy they
used. They partake of cake and wine after the ceremony.
As the esbat progresses, everyone disrobes as a symbol of freedom
so that the power can flow freely through the body. A circle is then
drawn to retain the power, which they release in a concentrated
area. It must be made clear that spirits play no part in any witches' work and study
rites or rituals.
In the middle of the circle is placed an altar. On the altar are
bowls of salt and water, a bunch of herbs, cords, a wand, incense,
candles, a whip, a chalice (goblet), and small crescent-shaped cakes.
The high priestess mixes the salt and water with her thame (a knife
with magical symbols on the handle), and sprinkles the witches with
the mixture, which purifies the witches so that the magic will work
properly.
