Cross Country Team Mil
Through the first six meets
Ashland High's cross-country
team is undefeated.
The first meet of the season
was the Crater Invitational,
where Ashland succeeded in
defending its title. The next
meet was against Crater and
Klamath Falls. Ashland beat the
Comets and Pels by well over 20
points.
Top Runners Missed Meet
Roseburg was Ashland's next
victim. The Big Bear came
through even though Claude
Neuenschwander and Scott
Studebaker, Ashland's top
runners, did not run in the meet
because of injuries.
The Grizzlies travelled next
to the Gil crest Invitational,
where they successfully
defended their title against
Madras. Bill McPherson was
Ashland's top runner of the
meet. He finished fifth.
Neuenschwander, recovering
from a hip injury, secured
seventh place. Tom McDowell
was eighth, Scott Studebaker
was ninth, and Jay Holland took
tenth.
Drama Club
by Julie Harrison
"This is the club that gets
things done in a different way,"
remarked Drama Club president,
Dave Sours.
For years, interest in drama
has been lacking at A1IS, despite
the presence of the
Shakespearean Festival.
Consequently, our high school's
dramatics program has been
weaker than many other schools
in Oregon. This year, however,
enthusiasm and excitement can
be seen within each member of
the Drama Club.
Several projects have already
been initiated by club members.
Three major plays are being
considered for production in the
new theatre. There will be one in
late fall, one in winter and one
in spring.
Plans for a lunch
theatre-plays performed during
the lunch periods-are under
consideration. In addition to
these ideas, other activities are
being discussed by the members.
The success of this year's
Drama Club depends largely on
the effort contributed by all of
its members. President Sours
wishes to see many people
become interested in drama, but
stresses the point that work will
be required of every member.

Grants Pass fell to Ashland by
a score of 25 to 49 with
Neuenschwander and
Studebaker taking second and
third, respectively. The
cross-country team then
travelled north last Saturday to
the Salem Invitational, and
defeated some of the top schools
in the state.
Tonight they meet the Big
Wind at Medford. Last year the
Grizzlies, defeated the Tornado
twice. The first time was in
Medford, - where Ashland
defeated both the Windbag and
Grants Pass. Ashland defeated
the Cavemen by three points.
This marked the first time in
cross-country history that
Ashland defeated Grants Pass.
In the second meet, Ashland
defeated Medford and Klamath
Falls. Ashland scored 25,
Klamath 36, and Medford 71.
Innovations Committee
The three openings in the
Innovations Committee have
been filled. Julie Davies obtained
the senior position and
Rosemary Olson and Allison
Moor house secured the two
sophomore openings. The
committee is now complete with
nine teachers and nine students.
The purpose of the
Innovations Committee is to
bring about constructive changes
in the High School.
Upperclassmen have more
representation because the
committee feels that they have
been in the high school longer
and thus have more experience
in different issues and ideas.

Medford Meet to be "Tough"
Medford has a much better
team and a new coach this year.
Consequently, tonight's meet is
going to be a tough one for the
Grizzlies.
On October 9, this Saturday,
the Grizzlies host the State of
Jefferson Invitational at the
Emigrant Lake course. Ashland
will be defending its title, with
the home course advantage.
October 1 3 marks another big
meet for the cross-country team,
as they travel north for the
North Marion Invitational. Last
year. Coach White took only the
top five runners to North
Marion. However, this year
Coach Julian plans to take the
top seven to defend the title
established last year.
Klamath Falls will invade the
Ashland course on October 15.
This is the last meet before
district. Klamath was the only
team to defeat the Grizzlies last
year (by one point), and
Ashland will again have the
home course advantage. The
advantage is increased by the
fact that the Pelicans have never
seen the Lake course.

Tests Now In Hands Of Boy's Dean
This is the first year that Mr.
Mearns, the Boy's Dean, has
handled the annual State
Colleges Visitation program.
Previously the event was handled
by the Vice-Principal, Mr. Silver.
Wednesday at one o'clocl
there was a grand session for all
seniors , and any interested
visitors. Each of the nine
colleges present was allowed to
use a room on the third floor of
the Humanities building. Each
senior was then allowed to visit
the representatives from three
colleges for a twenty minute
period.
During the twenty minute
periods, college representatives
described their respective
campuses. The discussions
touched on such topics as what
the school has to offer, as far as
living facilities, financial aid, and
curriculum.
The purpose of the visitation
was to allow the student to
become acquainted with the
various colleges and universities
of the state, so that he may
