The Big Bear came through even though Claude Neuenschwander and Scott Studebaker, Ashland's top runners, did not run in the meet because of injuries. The Grizzlies travelled next to the Gil crest Invitational, where they successfully defended their title against Madras. Bill McPherson was Ashland's top runner of the meet. He finished fifth. Neuenschwander, recovering from a hip injury, secured seventh place. Tom McDowell was eighth, Scott Studebaker was ninth, and Jay Holland took tenth. Drama Club by Julie Harrison "This is the club that gets things done in a different way," remarked Drama Club president, Dave Sours. For years, interest in drama has been lacking at A1IS, despite the presence of the Shakespearean Festival. Consequently, our high school's dramatics program has been weaker than many other schools in Oregon. This year, however, enthusiasm and excitement can be seen within each member of the Drama Club. Several projects have already been initiated by club members. Three major plays are being considered for production in the new theatre. There will be one in late fall, one in winter and one in spring. Plans for a lunch theatre-plays performed during the lunch periods-are under consideration. In addition to these ideas, other activities are being discussed by the members. The success of this year's Drama Club depends largely on the effort contributed by all of its members. President Sours wishes to see many people become interested in drama, but stresses the point that work will be required of every member. Consequently, tonight's meet is going to be a tough one for the Grizzlies. On October 9, this Saturday, the Grizzlies host the State of Jefferson Invitational at the Emigrant Lake course. Ashland will be defending its title, with the home course advantage. October 1 3 marks another big meet for the cross-country team, as they travel north for the North Marion Invitational. Last year. Coach White took only the top five runners to North Marion. However, this year Coach Julian plans to take the top seven to defend the title established last year. Klamath Falls will invade the Ashland course on October 15. This is the last meet before district. Klamath was the only team to defeat the Grizzlies last year (by one point), and Ashland will again have the home course advantage. The advantage is increased by the fact that the Pelicans have never seen the Lake course.
