MAY H. 1971 Neuenschwander And Toll Lone Winners At Triangular Meet Scott Toll and Claude Neuenschwander captured the Grizzlies only firsts at the triangular meet held May 4 with Medford and Crater tracksquads on the Ashland Field. Toll's high jump of 51 0" and Neuenschwander's two mile run time of 10:28.6 helped the Grizzlies capture second place with S6'i points. Medford triumphed with a total of 7154 points while Crater came in last with 42 points. The Ashland Grizzlies claimed eight seconds and tied for one. The 440 relay team of Bill Boyce, Al Lord, Larry Toney and Mark Wilson placed second with a time of 45.0. Medford was first with a time of 44.9. Neuschwander was overtaken in the last lap of the mile run by Medford's Marty Hooper. Neuenschwander was ahead in the race for three and one half, laps and was clocked in at 4:32.2 The same as Hooper's time. Akins took top honors with 37 strokes for the first nine holes, 35 for the second nine, and a total of 72 for the eighteen holes. Chuck Jessel was second for Ashland with an 83. Other Ashland golfers finishing the meet were, Gary Wilkerson with an 88, Pete Gray with 89, and Lee Ramsey with a 97. Grants Pass and the Roseburg jayvees were Ashland's competitors at the meet. Ashland placed third in the meet. The district golf meet will be held in Roseburg on Monday May 10 at 9:30 a.m. Copelands 42nd. The mile relay team of Toney, Wilson, McDowell and Lord finished second behind Medford with a time of 3:32.05 The only meet record came in the last completed event of the afternoon. Medford's Ted Davis cleared 14 feet in the pole vault. Polevaulter Keven Litweller finished second with his highest vault ever. 1 35". Ashland will travel to the Centennial Invitational on Saturday, May 8 at Greshan. Grizzly Girls Track Season Ends With 1 - 6 Record At 4:00 p.m., Friday, Spril 30, Ashland's girl's track team left for Roseburg for a last chance to win; and made it, 'scalping' the Indians 59-50, and going to the District Meet at Klamath Falls on May 14 with a record of 1 win, 6 losses. Several school records were broken during this season. Julie Davies ran the 100 meter hurdles in 16.6, then broke it again at Roseburg by running it in 16.2. Pain Hoffbuhr set the high jump record at 52 14", and also broke Ashland's hurdle record at Roseburg. Elaine Fisher also carne through at Roseburg by running the 440 dash in 65.1 seconds.
