Pace 4 ROGUE NEWS FRI . MAR. S, 1971 Senior Attends Science Seminar To Give Speech by Larry Taylor The Who's rock opera. Tommy, is one of the greatest achievements of rock music. The double album shows just how much the Who's style has matured since their Sell Out album. A few of the cuts on Tommy, such as "Pinball Wizard," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and the "Overture" have been Top-Forty hits. All too much of the best material has not often been heard. This album establishes Peter Townshend as a truly unique rock composer. His acrobatic guitar style, along with the singular voice of Roger Daltry, make Tommy one album which is worth the price. Ringo Starr's latest, Beaucoup of Blues, has been out a few months. It's a definite improvement in musical style over his Sentimental Journey. There's only one catch: it's all country-western. Two of San Francisco's most famous musical products, the Grateful Dead and the Jefferson Airplane, have recently put out albums from old tapes. Vintage is a collection of tapes made by the Dead in 1966. Grace Slick and the Great Society contains the original recordings of such Airplane hits as "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." Country Joe McDonald is making it on his own. He recently put out his own solo album, and has been on concert tour which took him to Eugene February 19. Miss Leigh attended the seminar February 27 at Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, Oregon as part of a program for science-oriented high school students. The program is sponsored annually by the Oregon Junior Academy of Science. Put in non-scientific terms, Euphorbia Peplus is a common weed called spurge, and Festuca Rubra is a pasture grass. Miss Leigh's speech was a report of her summer project of working with these two plants. This past summer she attended a Forestry workshop at the University of Washington for nine weeks. The speech involved estimating the yield possible of the two plants by dry weight by selective breeding. In her own words Miss Leigh said that it meant being able to take some plant and predict artificially by a computer program how much the plants will grow if they are bred to increase yield. Other students from throughout the state were selected to present ideas on original research, as well as to hear ideas presented by others. MODE O'DAY LADIES' FINE READY-TO-WEAR APPAREL 297 E. How much does it have? Where does it go? The beginning balance of the student body funds is derived from student body cards and sources, such as the remaining balance of the previous year's fund. The expenditures in the budget are decided upon by the executive council and the principal. After the expenditures have been decided upon the appropriations for the various organizations are determined. This is done after the student body president interviews a representative of the organization and asks questions ranging from the status of the organization to its annual expenditures. Replies are taken by the Student Body President to a meeting of executive council and principal. At the meeting members decide appropriations for each organization separately. By Weighing the need of the organization among other qualifications with the availability of money in the budget, the committee decides upon the amount of the appropriation. These organizations do not comprise the sole recipients of Student Body funds. Many organizations and student council projects receive money from a miscellaneous activities fund established within the budget. There are also other funds within the school that receive money from the overall budget. The student body budget is comprised solely of student body funds under the jurisdiction of the student council. The budget is supervised by the student body treasurer, a member of the executive council, who is selected each spring by the business teacher on the basis of his classroom work, and record.
