In a recent meet against Eagle Point she won first in three events and also won all-around gymnast. FRANK COODLETT was again chosen by Coach Richards as Athlete of the Month. He is still undefeated on the season. AL LORD was chosen by Coach Rogers as Skier of the Month for his hard work and consistently skiing well. SCOTT TOLL, a 6'7" junior, was selected by Coach Copple as Athlete of the Month for his fine rebounding throughout the first half of this season. f.ledford Beats Grizzlies The Medford Black Tornado upset the Grizzly wrestlers 29-14 last Thursday night at the Grizzly Gym. Jim Durbin drew the first team points as Medford forfeited at the 98 pound class. Starting the action in the 106 pound class, Dan Alexander scored a narrow 5-4 win over Grizzly sophomore Rick Sinclair. Grizzly sophomore John Studebaker lost a 4-2 decision to Terry Havercost, another Medford soph. At 141, Frank Goodlett had to go down to the last two seconds before sneaking past Ron Sturza. The Medford wrestler was called for stalling and there was some controversy over the call. Roger (ones, Ashland's 157-pounder, scored a 7-0 victory over Perry Gordon but that was the last match that the Grizzlies won. Earlier Steve Wilson decisioned Medford's Frank Sears, 6-1. FEB. 13 ROGUE VALLEY DRAFT SEMINAR Gymnasts Defeat Eagle Point Teem The girls' gymnastics team edged out Eagle Point Saturday, Feb. 6. Elaine Fisher placed first in all but one event. Ellen Reynolds placed in three events. She took second in balance beam and third in floor exercise and unevens. Ashland and Klamath Falls will compete Saturday, Feb. 13. The gymnastics team will also compete with Phoenix Feb. 17 and 27 to bring the season to a close. As the leading scorer on the team, he has averaged over 18 points per game and ranks as the third leading scorer in the conference. JV's Lose Close Match To Medford JV Matmen The Grizzly Junior Varsity wrestling team, dropped a close 28-26 match last Thursday to Medford at the Ashland High gym. The Grizzlies had to forfeit at five wieght classes and yet still almost beat the Black Tornado. Tom Wood, Wally Vait, Wes Crippen, and Larry Walter each won by pins for the Grizzlies. One win in place of one of the forfeits would have edged the Grizzlies by the Black Tornado.
