BILL SMITH. SENIOR
On December 18, the
Ashland Varsity basketball team
will play its first full game of the
1970-71 season, going against
Del Norte High School in a
non-conference game.
The Grizzly's starting line-up
for the game will be as follows:
Bill Smith and Dave Doerter, the
guards; Tim Slapnicka and Mark
Wilson, the forwards; and Scott
Toll, the center.
Ashland Varsity Coach
Richard Copple said of the
coming game, "We should have a
pretty good chance against Del
Norte on Friday. We are a taller
team than they are, and this will
naturally give us an important
advantage. However, they will
still be a tough opponent, and
no one can predict the outcome
of the game."
When he was asked how this
year's team compared with last
year's team, Coach Copple
stated, "This year's team has
more depth to it than last year's
did. It is also a taller team than
we had last year. In addition,
this year's team shoots better
than last year's did, and this
should be a big help."
Coach Copple went on to say
that "Of course, it is hard to tell,
but judging from what I have
seen of the team so far, this
year's basketball season should
be greatly improved over last
year's."
