This year at Ashland High
School we would like to
welcome eight new teachers who
have joined the teaching staff.
English Department:
New in the A IIS English
department his year is Barbara
Murdock. This is her first year
teaching. Besides teaching
English, Miss Murdock teaches
the speech classes. She graduated
from the University of
Washington and her hometown
is Yakima, Washington. She
noted "This area reminds me a
lot of home and I am rapidly
becoming an Ashland fan."
Clifford Brock is another new
addition to the AIIS English
staff. Mr. Brock is also a first
year teacher. Me is the advisor
for the Rogue News, lie
attended California State
College, Fullerton. He noted,
"Ashland is a great school."
A familiar face back in the
English department is Mrs.
Miss Barbara Murdock
Students Active
In Summer Vacation
Ashland High School students
traveled both in the State and
abroad this summer, going as
near as Salem and as far as
Europe.
The annual Girl's State
Convention was held June 14-19
a t Willamette University in
Salem. Ashland's delegates were
Cat hi Galati and Sharon Silver.
Miss Galati was elected governor
at the convention, while Miss
Silver was named as a senator.
Meanshile, Boy's State took
place June 14-20 at Oregon
State University in Corvallis.
Steve Asher, Jim Cady, Dee
Christlieb, Kit Nidever, Jerry
Scannell, and Tim Slapnicka
represented Ashland High
School.
Student Body president Jerry
Scannell, and Secretary Linda
Brown, attended a student
council workshop at Central
Oregon Community College in
Bend.
Eight de le gat e students
attended a workshop at Lewis
and Clark College in Portland.
They were: Connie Bulk ley,
Julie Davies, Bill Ellis, Cathi
Galati, Pat Overand, Steve
Parsons, Leslie Peterson, and
Cynthia Ragland. Connie
Bulkley and Bill Ellis placed
second in cross-examination
style debate competition at the
workshop.

Mrs. Selmi McAlaster
Selma McAlaster. She attended
the University of Colorado in
Boulder, Colorado. Her
hometown is Talent, Oregon.
Welcome back, Mrs. McAlaster.
Debbie Tischauser and Nancv
Bartlett. They left for Europe,
where Miss Bartlett's father was
on sabbatical leave from
Southern Oregon College, on
March 29. They visited England,
France, Andorra, Spain, Italy,
Liechenstein, Germany,
Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden,
Norway, and the Soviet Union
before returning home on July
29.
Other wanderers included
Debt Gates and Jacque Leigh,
who a 1 1 e n d e d sc i e n ce
workshops. Miss Gates attended
one at University of Kansas, and
Miss Leigh at the University of
Washington.

Home Economics Department:
Sue Keller is AHSs new
Home Economics teacher. She is
a native of Seattle, Washington,
and attained her degree from
Oregon State University. Besides
this being her first teaching job,
she is also advisor for the Flag
Girls.
Social Studies:
Richard Kromminga came to
AIIS from the Ashland Junior
High School to teach U.S.
History this year. He attended
Southern Oregon College and his
hometown is North Bend. He is
currently coaching the
Sophomore football team and
will be coaching Junior Varsity
basketball and baseball. Mr.
Kromminga wants to "Beat
Medford!"

Richard Ruth, coming from
Central Washington State
College, has replaced Everett
Winter as the vocal music
teacher at Ashland High School.
He is in charge of all the vocal
music activities.
P.E. Department:
Brian Richards is the new
boy's P.E. teacher and he also is
a Driver's Training instructor. He
attended Linfield College in
McMinnville, Oregon. He is
