Capture Ribbons
Girl Tracksters Post
Personal Season Bests
The Ashland High girls' track
team came in third with 40
points at a four-way track meet
at Klamath Falls last Friday,
AprU 17th.
Ashland was competing
against Klamath Falls, which
took first with 85; Lakeview,
second with 5 3 'A; and Chiloquin,
fourth with IS'A.
Relay First
In the 440 relay, Ashland
captured first with the time
SS.2. The runners were
Stephanie Sceva, Toni
Georgianna, Ellen Reynolds, and
Jan Sours.
Other first place in the meet
was taken by Gerri Clark in the
880 yard run with the time
2:39.2
Julie Davies came in third in
the 200 meter hurdles, fourth in
the 100 meter hurdles and fifth
in the long jump.
Valerie Zboril took third in
the shot-put and javelin. Mona
Tucker was fourth in the javelin
and Sandy Frischman, fifth, in
the discus.
Ashland's Ellen Reynolds
captured third in the long jump.
Stephanie Sceva came in third in
the 100 yard dash and Ellen
Reynolds came in fourth.
Gerri Clark took third in the
100 meter hurdles, while Jan
Sours came in fifth in the 220
yard run.
Bad Weather
Coach Kimball believes that
the girl's could have done much
better except that the weather
was so bad. She says that it was
very cold and windy and thus
prevented the girls from doing
their best.
The Ashland High girls' track
squad lost to a strong Medford
team, 65-48, Tuesday afternoon
at Ashland in the cold and rain.

GERRI CLARK, sprinter on the female track squad,
succeeded in landing a third place in Friday's 100 meter
hurdles. Here she shows her fine form in dead sprint,
enabling her to win the 880 yard run with a time of 1 : 39.2.
Marilyn Joyce at 15'8". This
broke a school record. Ellen
Reynolds also broke the school
record with a jump of 15'7V4",
capturing third place.
Ashland won the 440 yard
relay with the time 54.5
seconds. The runners of the
winning team were Stephanie
Sceva, Jan Sours, Anita Baker
and Ellen Reynolds.
Ashland also won the 880
yard medley relay with the
winning time 2:07. The runners
were Sceva, Baker, Reynolds and
Gerri Clark.
Cindy Troutman won the 440
yard dash with 1:12. Medford's
Lonna Adron took second and
Ashland's Joyce Mobley, third.
Sandy Frischman won the
javelin with a best throw of
90' 1", and came in second in the
discus.
Julie Beach became the
winner of the shot-put with a
heave of 33 W.
Double Winner
Rayleen Hooper was a double
winner for Medford. Winning the
880 yard run in 2:27 and the
mile in 6:06.4.
For the mile, Linda Sab in
Putters Started Slowly
The Ashland High School
putters start their season slowly,
winning 4 out of 13 matches.
Friday April 18 the Ashland
golfers split with Medford and
Phoenix in a match play. The
putters lost to Medford 8-7 but
smeared the Pirates 1 4V4-Vi. Mark
Wilson, playing first position on
the team had a total score of 73.
Pat Akins following close behind
and playing second position had
a score of 78. Both Wilson and
Akins are freshmen.
Third position on the team is
played by Bill Smith, a junior.
Fourth is occupied by Carey
Schmaltz, sophomore and fifth
is played by Lee Ramsey,
sophomore.

Stephanie Sceva tied second
with Medford's Debbie Alberson
in the 100 yard dash.
In the 220, Medford's Mary
Beach, won first with 29.1
seconds; Connie Skinner, also of
Medford, took second and
Ashland's Judy Hicks came in
third.
The Ashland girl's Coach says
that she is "tickled to death"
about the two broken records in
the long jump by Julie Davies
and Ellen Reynolds.
Diamondmen Play Pelicans
Lose
The Ashland varsity baseball
team traveled to Klamath Falls
on April 18, losing two games by
scores of 19-4 and 14-4.
Randy Nelson and Tim
Slapnicka pitched the first game
of the double-header for
Others on the team are; Gary
Brown, senior; Mike Akins,
senior; Harley Dixon, junior;
Chuck Wilow, sophomore and
Dave Millward, freshman.
There is one remaining match.
This is with St. Marys High in
Medford. The district meet is
May 1 1 at Grants Pass.
Although the team started out
slowly this season Coach Copple
feels that they are definitely
progressing.

AHS Athletes Adopt
New Training Rules
The Athletic Department at Ashland High recently adopted a new
set of training rules. The following rules apply to all students both
boys and girls in training during any particular school activity:
1. Total abstinence from experimentation or use of DRUGS,
ALCOHOL and TOBACCO.
2. Complete compliance with all Civil laws, rules and regulations.
Failure to comply with the above rules will result in the
SUSPENSION of the athlete from all sports, including after school
weight-training, for a period of fifteeh ( 1 5) SCHOOL WEEKS.
1. The suspended athlete must have been apprehended by any of
the following: a. Police officers; b. Ahsland High School or Junior
High School coaches; c. Members of school teaching staff.
2. The suspended athlete must appear before an Ashland Coaches
Review Board within seven (7) days of the violation. The first day of
the suspension period will be the day he appears before the board.
a. The Coaches Review Board will consist of: 1 J All coaches, 2
Principal; 3 Athletic Director.
3. The athlete's hair will be neat and trim at all times and will
comply with the following guidelines: a. There will be no facial hair,
b. Sideburns may be worn, but will end at the lobe of the ear; c. The
hair will not extend over the ears and will not be long and bushy in
the back; d. Top hair, if combed forward, will not hang down below
the eyebrows.
NOTE: It is the coaching staffs recommendation that short hair
be worn by all athletes.
4. The athlete will be home by 10:00 p.m. during season and in
bed at a reasonable time thereafter.
5. The conduct of a gentleman, on and off the field, remembering
at all times that he is a representative of both school and
community.
6. That the eligibility concerning grades, attendance, age, etc. be
in compliance with those regulations set up by the State Activities
Association.
7. That the award letter be worn with pride and treated with
respect.
Two Games
Ashland, while Bill Taylor took
the mound for the Pelicans.
Taylor picked up the win.
The big hitters for the
Grizzlies in the first game were:
Scott Jenson, who had one hit in
three at-bats, Kim Rickert, with
two hits in two chances, Jim
Dicker son, who had one hit in
four trips to the plate,
Slapnicka, who also had one for
four. Bill Lewis, who collected
two hits in two at-bats, and Rick
Rosentreter, who got one hit in
three tries. The Pelicans out-hit
the Grizzlies 14-8.
In the game, Klamath picked
up two runs in the 1st inning,
seven in the 4th, three in the
fifth, and seven in the 6th.
Ashland got two of their four
runs in the third inning and two
in the fifth.
In the second game, Charlie
James and Rosentreter took the
mound for the Bears, and Young
started for Klamath. Young got
the win.
The big batsmen for the
Grizzlies in this game were.
Jenson, who had 2-3, Rickert,
with 1-3, Dickerson, 1-3,
Slapnicka, 1-3, Ted
Neuenschwander, 1-2, and
Lewis, who also had 1-3.
The Bears outhit the Pels in
this game, 7-5, but still lost, as
James gave up 1 1 walks and they
committed 1 0 errors.
The Pelicans got 1 run in the
first inning, 2 in the second, 1 in
the third, 6 in the fourth, and 4
in the fifth. Ashland got their 4
runs in the fifth.
Head Coach Arlan Foote of
the Grizzlies said of the defeat,
"It was a combination of too
many errors from us and too
many hits from Klamath."
