Several Ashland High
students spent the summer
throughout the world.
Students traveled to places as
close to home as Eugene and as
far away as Europe and South
America.
The boys attending the
Fellowship of Christian Athlete's
confernece at Southern Oregon
College expressed their
enthusiasm over the week long
symposium.
Those attending the
conference from Ashland were
Jim Dickerson, Bob Dreuzsus,
Larry Edwards, Jim Fieguth,
Roger Hall, Scott Jensen, Brian
Kieling, Jim McLean, Randy
Nelson, Jim Pardee and Dennis
Teskey.
Early in the summer Jane
Davis and Cathy Riffe went to
Girls State at Salem. Girls State

DRAMA GUILD
Neil Ampel was recently
elected president of the Ashland
Drama Guild. Other officers
chosen were Vicki Ragland, vice
president, Sara Fink and Betsy
Hester, secretaries and Cynthia
Dodge, treasurer. The club is
now in the process of writing a
constitution. This will enable
them to become a member of
Inter-Club Council. Plans will be
made for a major production in
the near future.
FNA
AHS Future Nurses of
America are again starting out a
new year by doing volunteer
work. Each girl works regularly
at the Ashland Community
Hospital and the Mt. View
N ursing Home. Their latest
project was a tour of Rogue
Valley Hospital. Once a month
the club invites a speaker to talk

is designed to help girls better
understand the methods and
practices of democracy and the
U.S. government.
Miss Riffe was elected one of
the two senators from Oregon.
Because of her appointment
as senator, Miss Riffe was
selected as one of the Oregon
delegates to Girls Nation in
Washington D.C. In Washington
she met with 99 other girls and
set up a mythical national
government.
Boys State is based on the
same principles as Girls State,
but it is held in Corvallis rather
than Salem. The boys
representing Ashland for the
week long confernece were Neil
Ampel, Gary Brown, Mark
Herndobler and Randy Nelson.
Kathy Nidever had the
privelege of attending the United
and meet with them at the
Ashland Hospital.
AFS
A reception for Ashland's
American Field Service student,
Nedda Bestagna, is being
organized. The AFS club is
planning the reception and a
baked food sale to be held after
homecoming.
SSS
Members of the SSS Committee
this year include Seniors, Debbie
Morgan and Leslie Grimm;
Juniors, Steve Asher and Dee
Christlieb; Sophomores, Sue
Hays and Sue Doerter. Chairman
Neil Ampel announced that the
first SSS challenge will be
tomorrow night's Medford vs.
Ashland football game.
Just checking but does
everyone know that SSS stands
for Spirit, Service and
Scholarship?

Ashland's Corner Drug Store
Nations Pilgrimage for Youth
sponsored by the Oddfellows
and Rebekahs. Her tour lasted
26 days and included a week in
New York City and the UN, two
days in Washington D C. and the
rest of the tune was spent in the
form of an educational bus tour.
The American field Service
Club sponsored a student in
Ecuador this summer. Alice Dale
was chosen to represent Ashland
in the Americans Abroad
Program for three months during
the summer.
One of this year's new
students, Jan Sours, spent the
last year in Turkey while her
father participated in an
educational exchange program
between the University of Iowa
and the University of Istanbul.

joined the teaching staff at
Ashland High School this year.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Gary Phillips came to AHS
from the Ashland Junior High to
teach U.S. History here this
year. He is currently coaching
the Sophomore football team
and will help with the Junior
Varsity basketballers.
ENGLISH DEPT.
New in the AHS English
Dept. this year is Richard
Kreisman, brother of James
Kreisman a 1969 graduate of
AHS. Richard also graduated
from AHS in 1965. Kreisman
was raised in a school
environment as his father is a
professor at Southern Oregon
College.
Ellsworth London is another
addition to the AHS English
Staff. London is a native of
Berkeley, California, and has
traveled in Mexico, Europe and
the British Isles.
MATHEMATICS
Bill White, who has taught at
Medford Senior High School for
the past three years, has joined
our Math Dept. this year. He
graduated from Southern
Oregon College and holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in
both Mathematics and Physical
Education. White is coaching
cross-country and will help
CONTEST
CLOSES OCT.
It's illegal to pinch in Rome,
but from Vicki Ragland's
reports, the males of the city
don't obey' the laws too well.
She not only visited Rome and
other parts of Italy but also
Paris, France during her visit to
Europe this summer.
Mrs. Ida Simon chaperoned a
six week study tour to France,
Spain and Switzerland during
the months of July and August.
Mike Akins, Zena Allen, Jane
Davis and Marjorie Rio
accompanied her on the tour.
The students spent most of their
time studying in Avigon, France
and getting to know the area and
its peoples. Those on the tour
also had the pleasure of visiting
Paris and taking in some of the
famed nightlife.
Ashland
coach the AHS track team this
spring.
P. E..
Betty Kimball has joined
AHS as a girl's physical
education instructor. Miss
Kimball has teaching experience
from several other schools
including Ashland Junior High.
She is the propietor of Kimjo
Casuals, a local women's
clothing store.
Tim Brown is the new boy's
P.E. teacher, replacing John
Buck. Brown is a graduate of
Medford High School, and
Linfeild College. He is presently
coaching the Sophomore
football team and will be AHS's
head wrestling coach.
LANGUAGE
Patricia Selby has also joined
the AHS staff, as a Spanish
teacher. Miss Selby graduated
from the University of Oregon,
this year with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in the Spanish language.

INDUSTRIAL ARTS AND
DRIVERS TRAINING
Michael Titus, coming from
San Jose State College, has
replaced Ken Gebhardt as an
industrial Arts teacher at AHS.
Titus teaches both Auto Shop
and Crafts 1.
Also new to the High School
staff is Arlan Foote, the new
Driver Training instructor. Foote
formerly taught elementary P.E.
in the Ashland School District.
He will coach Sophomore
Basketball and Varsity Baseball.
LIBRARIAN AND
HOME-hC
Our new librarian for the
1969-70 year is Pauline Rey. She
is a graduate of North Texas
State University. She comes to
us from the Saratoga School
District in California.
Patricia James is AHS's new
Home Economics teacher. She is
a native of Eugene, Oregon and
attained her degree from Oregon
State University.
