Qualify For State
The AHS track squad capped
off its season at the district meet
last weekend, qualifying seven
Grizzlies for the state meet in
Corvallis.
Earning state berths for
Ashland were; Jay Fischer, high
and low hurdles, mile relay; Jim
Pardee, long jump; Roger Hall,
high hurdles; Brian (Ceiling, high
jump; Wes Lewis, Randy
Samuelson and Mike Toney,
mile relay.
SKIP GOLDEN, AHS senior,
gives the shot a mighty fling
in the district track meet held
here on Saturday. Golden was
the Athlete of the Month of
May for his track efforts.
Netters End Season
The tennis team of AHS,
spearheaded by the
performances of three seniors,
finished the season with a 6-6
record.
Steve Craft compiled the best
individual record, winning nine
and losing but three. John Perry
was next with a slate of seven
wins and four losses. Third on
the list was Tim Ward, who had
a seven and five record.
Doubles Duo Takes 4th
At the district tennis meet on

Fischer and Pardee led the
Ashland contingent, picking up
four ribbons each. Fischer took
firsts in the low hurdles and the
mile relay. He also placed second
in the high jump and fourth in
the high jump.
Pardee had a first in the long
jump, a third in the 100 yd.
dash, another third in the pole
vault, and a fourth in the low
hurdles.
Overall, the Grizzlies placed
third with 1 1 1 points. Grants
Pass won the title with 125
points, followed by Roseburg,
116, Ashland, Medford, 71,
Klamath Falls SO, and Crater 21.
Bears Win Home Meet
The AHS track crew
completed its regular season on
Friday, May 16, by
over-whelming three adversaries
at the annual Shakespearean
Invitational Meet.
All in all, the Grizzly spikers
captured eight first places in
route to scoring a total of 95
points. Roseburg was a distant
second with 73 points, followed
by Klamath Falls with 58 and
Crater with 13.
Roger Hall picked up two
firsts in the 120 low and 180 yd.
high hurdles. Hall covered the
distances in the times of 14.9
and 20.3 respectively.
Other winners for the
Grizzlies included; 440 yd. relay
- Dave Edwards, Jon Olson,
Randy Samuelson, and Mike
Toney, 44.5 Mile - Larry
Edwards, 4:38.2. 880 yd. run -Wes
Lewis, 205.0.
Mile relay - Jay Fischer,
Randy Samuelson, Roger Hall
and Wes Lewis, 330.5. Two mile
- Jim McLean, 10:03.5. Long
jump - Jim Pardee, 22 ft. 8".
Saturday, May 10, the doubles
team of Perry and Craft made
the best AHS showing, placing
fourth out of 20 entries.
Sophomores John Jennings
and Jeff Peterson were the only
other Grizzly netters to triumph.
They won their first round
doubles match but were
defeated in their next encounter.
Coach McKenzie expressed
satisfaction with the fact that
the 6-6 record compiled was the
best team mark in three years of
competition.

With 7-18 Record
The AHS Varsity Baseball
team ended the season with a
7-18 record, ranking them
number S in the confreence.
Leading pitcher for the team
was senior, Sonny Sixkiller. He
was credited with three wins and

Golfers Concede
To Medford
At District Meet
The Ashland High School golf
team placed fourth in the
District Championships held at
Rogue Valley Country Club.
Ashland pulled ahead of
Klamath Falls by one stroke,
grabbing fourth place.
Medford won the
competition with a team score
of 312 followed by Roseburg
322, Grants Pass 335, Ashland
348, Klamath Falls 349, and
Crater 386.
Medford and Roseburg, first
and second respectively,
qualified for the state meet
which was held in Portland.
Bill Smith was AHS's only
nomination for outstanding play
in the conference. He was placed
on the All Conference second
team.
Individual scores for AHS at
the district competition were
Bill Smith 43l-84, Chris
Dawkins, 47-42-89, Lee Ramsey,
42-45-87, Jim Work 46-42-88,
Jeff McCollum, 478-94.

2.74 runs per game. Senior, Bob
Wallis ended with a win-loss
record of 4-9 and had 2.9S runs
per game. Jim Dickerson, a
junior was the top slugger on the
team with a batting average of
Ladies Track Team
Ashland High's girls track
team broke several school
records during the season.
The relay team composed of
Stephanie Sceva, junior, Toni
Georgianna, sophomore, Barbara
Krause, sophomore, and Kay
Ridinger, sophomore, broke the
previous school record of 55.5,
with a time of 52.1. They also
qualified for the state track
meet.
Sophomore Linda Sabin
broke the record for the mile
run with a time of 6:21.9. The
previous record was 6:24.

through the season.
Dave Gettling, Senior, had 10
runs batted in this season to
rank highest on the team. Close
behind with nine runs batted in
was Bob Lewis, also a Senior.
Conference startings stacked
up as follows: First, Klamath
Falls, second Medford, third
Crater, fourth Roseburg, then
Ashland and sixth Grants Pass.
JV's Flounder
The Junior Varsity Baseball
squad ended their season by
losing a double header to a
tough Klamath Falls team. This
gave them a 1-19 win-lose
record.
Kim Rickert, a sophomore
batted 339 to lead the team. His
20 hits for the season gave him
the most hits on the squad.
Rickert also scored the most
runs and stole the most bases.
Steve Asher was the pop
pitching 62 innings, winning 1
game and losing 8 ballgames.
Wraps Up Season
broke the record in the 880 yard
run with a time of 2:45.9. The
previous record was 2:47.
Also breaking a school record
in the long jump event, was
Stephanie Sceva, junior. Miss
Sceva broke the previous record
of 14'2" with a jump of 15'6'4".
The team ended the season
by placing fifth in the district.

The Whitland Locke Studio
will be on hand to make the
traditional Class photo and
other yearbook snaps in black
and white.
Color will be used to
photograph Seniors in the
"arch setting" as they come
down from the stage carrying
their diplomas. Or, they may
have their pictures made after
the ceremonies, alone or with
a friend or parent. Two 5x7's
in souvenir folders and four
wallet size will cost five
dollars.
Payment is to be made in
advance, a spokesman for the
studio said. A representative
will be on duty in the school
cafeteria prior to the start of
the Commencement
ceremonies. Seniors and
Parents may make
arrangements there.
