Ken Conger, Jane Davis, and Jessie Martin -Editors,
breaking into their new job.
New Rogue News
The new editors of the
1969-70 issues of Ashland High's
school newspaper, the ROGUE
NEWS, have been named as Jene
Davis, Editor-in-chef, and Kenn
Conger and Jessie Martin,
associate editors.
Miss Davis has been an able
performer of the ROGUE NEWS
staff for two years. This past
year, she has served as the Sports
Editor for the paper. Her
sophomore year was spent in the
ranks of the cub reporters.
Also a veteran of two years of
the Paper's staff, Miss Martin
was named as an associate
editor. She served both her
sophomore and junior year as a
reporter on the writing staff.
Conger was the only editor
named who had not served on
the staff for two years. He
started as a reporter on the
ROGUE NEWS just this year
and will be an associate editor in
the coming year.
The new editors were chosen
and announced by ROGUE
NEWS Advisor Gary Wall, who
made his decision known to the
journalism class May 6. Wall
indicated that the main reasons
for selection were experience as
Galati Takes Speech Contest
Dave Galati was the local first
place winner of a speech contest
held at Ashland High School on
April 30.
Galati received a fifty dollar
reward from the local board of
realtors for his efforts. Second
and third place prizes were also
donated by the board. Alice
Dale received thirty dollars for a
second place finish, and Lon
Gossage captured third place and
a twenty dollar prize.
The educational contest is
sponsored on a state-wide basis
by the Oregon Realtors
Association. It has been held
annually for the past four years.

a reporter, editoral capabilities,
and various important
journalistic skills.
Sports Editor and Advertising
managers remain to be named,
but Wall announced that he will
select these posts at the
beginning of the 1969-70 school
year.
Retiring their posts as this
year's editors are:
Editor-in-chief Karen
Sargenti, News Editor Karen
Davidson, Managing Editor
Emily Hungerford, and
Advertising Managers Joi Van
Derlinden and Jean Reynolds.
The May 29 ROGUE NEWS
(this issue) was put out by the
joint efforts of the newly
selected editorial staff. The
purpose for this change in
editorship is to give the new
editorial staff some practical
experience in editing the
publication.
Girl Of The Term
Galati and other district first
place winners competed in the
state speech contest at the
Thunderbird Motel in Eugene on
May 17, for scholarships totaling
$1,000.00. Galati did not place.
The speeches were not to be
over ten minutes in length and
were judged on stability of
subject, thought content,
organization, development of
ideas, use of language, voice and
diction, bodily action, and
communication with the
audience.
