Kris Keil Named Valedictorian Students Rake In Honors Brown, ndi Tie Forsai The annual spring awards assembly was held May 21, at which students were honored in several fields. Seniors receiving Carpenter Foundation scholarships were Dawn Clark, Lorinda Cluff, Darlene Dragoo, John Perry, and Vicki Shaw were awarded four year renewable grants from the foundation. One year grants went to Brenda Black, Judy Brown, Loy Dale, Candace Gately, Lois Hoadley, Diana Kirby, Christine Lisonbee, Phil Michael, Kerry Roberts, Sandra Schoonover, Una Smith, and Edd Wight. Southern Oregon College scholarships went to Karen Sargenti, Leslie Houk, Lorinda Cluff, Diane Kirby, Vicki Shaw, John Perry, and Judy Brown. Other scholarship recipients were Kathy Hill, University of Portland; Gary Slack and Lois Hoadley, University of Oregon; Dave Galanti and Sandra Schoonover, Oregon State University, Karin Davidson, Marylhurst College and Emily Hungerford, Scripps College; Kris Keil, Stephens College; Kay Ferreira and Bob Barnum, College of the Siskiyous; Sonny Sixkiller, University of Washington; Jay Fischer, U.S. Naval Academy and NROTC Stanford University; Phil Micheal, Stanford University; Edd Wight, Willamette University; and Skip Golden, Linfoeld College. Beauty School scholarships were presented by Mrs. Zwick to Mara Slcak.Toney, Jari Carder, Colleen Flowers, Sueann Fagan, and Diane Slapnicka. Mrs. Lincoln Raynes, Chairman of the scholarship committee at Bellview School, Presented a $250 scholarship to Dave Gettling and full summer school tuition to Lorinda Cluff. UP ON THE NEWS Attention all graduating seniors: Commencement practice will be Wednesday, June 4 at 8:45 a.m. Be Prompt! Bad news gang! The big hand-out (referred to as the library) will be closed the last week of school. Be sure all books are returned! (At least the ones you don't want anymore!!) For graduation the senior class has chosen red and white for their colors "Somewhere" taken from WEST SIDE STORY for their song, and red and white carnations for their flower. There is a nice collection of card tables left over from the prom this year and last. Check in the wrestling room to see if one is yours. The 4th Annual Oregon Youth Championship Chess Tournament is scheduled for June 3, 7, 8, at the YMCA building in Medford. Kris Keil, valedictorian and Judy Brown and Jay Fisher salutaiorians of the 1969 graduating class have been selected on the basis of their high school record. Kris, who has maintained a 3.9 SS grade point average, is an active member of the Debate team. As a result of her activities, Kris has been selected for several honors this year. She placed first in the Elk's Leadership Contest and also in the Elk's Most Valuable Student Scholarship offer. Kris plans to attend Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri Judy who has maintained a 3.920 grade point average is a member of the AHS band. Judy was awarded the Chemistry Award her junior year and was chosen Oregon Scholar for 1969. Next year Judy will attend Southern Oregon College. Jay, who has maintained a 3.909 grade point average served a Student Body Vice President. Jay is also a member of the Lettermen's Club and served as Band Drum Major his junior and senior years. Among Jay's other activities were track, basketball, and cross country.
