Athletes, Students
At Conferences
During the summer, two ac
tivities will be held in which
several boys from Ashland High
School will be participating.
Boys State, held in Corvallis,
and the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes will allow boys from
all parts of Oregon and the
Western United States to meet
together for these two affairs.
Beaver Boys State will take
place from June 11 to June
17 on the Oregon State Univer
sity campus. AHS representa
tives include Dick Boulton,
Jack Davis, Alan Engstrom,
Dale Lahr, Gary MeGraw, Todd
Merriman, Mike Schoonover,
John Zupan and Jim Wood,
who was picked as an alternate.
They were nominated by their
U.S. History teachers and a
nine-member committee made
the final selections. Boys State
is a plan for training in the
funcitonal aspects of citizen
ship. Sponsored by the Ameri
can Legion, it teaches the youth
of today constructive attitudes
toward the American form of
government; also "that all a
democracy needs is an intelli
gent citizenry and a clean,
honest and impartial adminis
tration responsive to the will
of the people." The program
originated in Illinois in 1934.

The 1967 school will be the
31st session. A scholarship of
$50 is provided by an anony
mous sponsor for each boy who
is attending Beaver Boys State.
On August 20-25, the Fellow
ship of Christian Athletes will
take place on the Southern
Oregon College campus.
Seniors
The end of this year is near
and several functions are being
put on for the benefit of the
seniors. One of these was a
party on the Applegate River
last weekend. The seniors are
now looking forward to the
Senior Banquet June 6 and
the all-night party June 8.
The Applegate party was
another senior class party orga
nized by class president Mike
Knapp. it lasted from 1:00 in
the afternoon till 12:00 p.m. It
began with a picnic at McKee
bridge on the Applegate.

School clubs and classes re
cently selected officers for the
1967-1968 school year. Heading
student government will be

student body president, and
first vice-president Steve Hag
ert, who will serve as next
year's interclub council presi
dent. Other executive student coun
cil officers include: second vice
president, Kathy Hill; secre
tary, Nonda Ainsworth; and
treasurer, Kathy Zollman.
Leading class activities for
the coming school year will be
Bruce Oden, senio. class presi
dent; James Kreisman, junior
class president; and Janie Da
vis, sophomore class president,
who was elected through a
write-in vote.
Other class officers include
Panola Witt, senior class vice
president, and Dian Demo, sen
ior class secretary-treasurer.
Junior class officers who will
be in charge of planning and
organizing next year's junior
senior prom, include: Jay
Fischer, vice-president; Leslie
Ilouk, secretary-treasurer; and
Kathy Pennington, social chair
man. Other sophomore class
officers include Roger Hall,
vice-president; and Laurie
O'Harra, secretary-treasurer.

Active Till End
The seniors played volley
ball, baseball, badminton, had
water fights, and went swim
ming, if they wanted to, until
it was time to eat. Box lunches,
made by the girls, were sold
to the boys, starting at a quar
ter. There was a dance in the
Applegate Grange from 8:00
until 12:00.
The Banquet is the next
event on the agenda. It will be
held at the Elks with ham
served buffet style. The seniors
bought tickets to this for $2.50
each. After the dinner there
will be a dance. For those want
ing to attend there will be an
additional fee of 50 cents.
Last Function
The last high school function
for this year's seniors is the
all-night party to be held after
graduation ceremonies. The
tickets for this cost $2.00. The
chairmen for this affair are
Mr. and Mrs. Gruber.
Others helping them are Mrs.
Shirley Berninghausen, taking
charge of the breakfast, Mrs.
James Buckelew, taking care of
the food; Mr. Vernon Gross,
