Contests On For
Intramural Titles
Mr. Jack Hall, driver educa
tion teacher, has organized a
new morning pastime for the
students. His program includes
dart throwing, ping pong, and
archery, which has been taking
place since last fall.
Ping pong is held each Wed
nesday morning. The competi
tion is held in the form of a
tournament. Dart throwing is
on Thursday and Friday morn
ings. This also is in the form of
a tournament. Mr. Hall orga
nized the archery club last fall
when the group was open for all
who were interested in the
sport. The school supplied the
equipment for those who did
not have their own. Archery
takes place every Monday and
Tuesday morning in the cafe
teria with targets on the stage.
These games of skill are held
in contest form from 7:30 to

attend these activities.
Mr. Hall himself takes part
in dart throwing, ping pong,
and archery most of the time.
As an archer he is well quali
fied as an instructor. Earlier
this year, during practice with
the students, Mr. Hall shot a
"Robin Hood," which is one
arrow splitting another one
which is in the center of the
target. The shot did not qualify
him for the national group,
however, since it did not occur
during competition.

Betty Mayo, junior, has been
chosen to fill the position of
state reporter for the Future
Business Leaders of America
this year. She received the po
sition at the state convention
held April 7 and 8 at Oregon
State University.
As state reporter, Betty's job
will include putting out the
state bulletin three times a
year. This bulletin includes all
the activities which occur
throughout the clubs in the
state.
Fifteen
Fifteen students attended
the annual two-day conference,
which was highlighted by a ban
quet. The students listened to
many distinguished speakers as
well as the campaign speeches
and elected this year's officers.
They also attended district
meetings where they elected

Ginny Lawrence placed
third out of nearly 30 com
petitors in extemporaneous
speaking at the state debate
tournament held April 13-15
in Corvallis. Ginny was the
only debater from the dis
trict who was able to place
in the stiff competition.

which will be held later this
year in San Francisco. Last
year Joyce Taylor and Linda
Roberts represented the Ash
land Chapter of FBLA at the
national convention held in
New Orleans.
AHS Rally Drivers
Enter County Meet
Ashland High School was
represented by seven cars in
the Jackson County Youth
Council's countywide car rally,
April 9.
Local Rally
A s h 1 a n d's representatives
were determined by a local
rally held a week before the
countywide event. Linda Zarka
and Nancy Phillips won the
local rally. Jim Kreisman and
Kay Ferreira finished first
among the Ashland cars entered
in the county rally, although

Seven Schools
Forty-seven cars from seven
county high schools participated
in the second annual event.
Cars from Ashland, St. Mary's,
Crater, Phoenix, Medford, Eagle
Point, and Rogue River com
peted for six individual trophies
and one team trophy.
A car from St Mary's collect
ed only 33 penalty points to
place first in the individual
competition.
