Modern Problems
Program Changed
As part of an experiment, se
lected students from senior mod
ern problems classes have been
working in an independent
study program.
Beginning this semester, ca
pable students began spending
class-time in the library, work
ing on three research papers.
The topics all center around a
democracy theme. Students are
also responsible for all class
work and tests.
Individual Needs
The purpose of the program
is to adapt the curriculum to
needs of the individual student
Students with the greatest abili
ties are expected to do outside
work.
The current program will be
used for a period of three to
four weeks and will occupy only
the unit of study on democracy.
The program benefits all stu
dents because each can work ac
cording to his own abilities.
Future Program
The success of this experi
mental program will affect the
curriculum for next year's
classes. Mr. Herb Lewis, modern
problems teacher, believes that
too many people regard the pres
ent course as "Mickey-Mouse."
"This year an attempt has been
made to remove the Mickey," he
says. "Next year's program will
remove the Mouse."
