'Sunsline Patriot' High-lights AHS Students Fit Image By Alan Engitrom by Judy Hare and Jan Gray Here lies the "Sunshine Patriot." He led a good life in the land of the sun. He died with winning spirit in his heart. It was winning spirit that killed him. Victory was the only medicine that kept him alive, When it was taken away, he died a swift and sudden death. He died with his boots on, ready to be resurrected. Can his spirit be resurrected at A.H.S.? mi; umcers Officers have been elected for the remainder of this year. They formance of the team. The team needs your support to play well. Without this spirit, the team does not do as well as it could. Everyone should be able to make an appearance for at least one home basketball game. There is one home game to be played this season. Attend ing it would help resurrect "our hero." Do you believe? WITH ANNIE In various schools throughout the United States a great deal of emphasis is placed on the participation of the student. Students at West Seattle High, Seattle, Washington published the first issue of the Jacobin, a student opinion journal. Its pur pose is to present opinions on questions of interest and rele vance written by members of the school and community, espe cially its youth. Students at Anoka High, Anoka, Minnesota, have orga nized an advisory board. The board will meet once a month to plan and carry out programs to improve local business's serv ice to the student. Members are being paid according to the time and effort they spend on the various projects. SOPHOMORES GET NEW CLASS RINGS This year's Sophomore class members were offered a choice of high school rings. Students could choose either pattern selected by the class or a standard Ashland High class ring. Rings were ordered Feb. 3 and will be delivered some time this spring. Don't the halls seem a little bit safer? Well, they are. (Only one case of as sault this month.) The reason for this is that two crimefight ers, the Whistler and the Caped Mashing Muncher Cruncher, have combined forces to stamp out evil in our school. Only a few people know the secret civilian identities of these true super heroes and they are pledged not to tell. However, one hint as to who these Clark Kent types are is that their weaknesses are pinball machines and sloppy 19 cent hamburgers. The Ashland City Police are also doing their job in the fight against crime. Their latest beat seems to be Emigrant Lake. I Understand there are a lot of robberies and such goings on out there. Runyon wrote about life in New York City. The play has two main plots. One concerns Nathan Detroit, who runs a floating crap game. He has been engaged to a dance hall girl, Adelaide, for 14 years. If you listen closely you can pick up little historical items, like the one Mr. Shanks dropped last week. According to Mr. Shanks, Achilles was the hero of the Trojan Har. As you may have guessed al ready, I'm running kind of low on material for this column. Thus I'll take up some space with a Thing of the Month. It is eight feet high, 300 pounds, and has a mean hook. What is it? Next time you see a Journal ism student, ask him what is the quickest way to get out of an elephant son, a big-time gambler, and Sarah Brown, who runs a mis sion. The musical also revolves around a bet of $1,000 between Detroit and Masterson, and the results of this bet. Tryouts Tryouts for parts in the mu sical were open to anyone be cause the production was a community project. The large cast of 40 or 50 and the orches tra began rehearsing the first of January. Dr. Matthews directed the orchestra which consisted of many townspeople. Mr. Windt, teacher at AHS, played the cello in the orchestra. Dr. Tumbleson from Southern Oregon College directed the singing.
