To Regional Musical Groups
Two senior girls have been se
lected to participate in the All
Northwest Choir and Orchestra.
Monte Bradshaw, concert-mistress
of the A1IS orchestra, and
Barbie Sorenson, AHS choir
president, have been named as
participating members.
Monte and Barbie will join
high school students from four
states for a music conference in
Missoula, Montana, March 29 to
April 1. During this time, they
will rehearse the music which
College Musicians
Present Program
The University of Nevada
touring stage band, comprised
of top college music students
from several states, presented a
concert Jan. 25 at the Ashland
High School gymnasium.
Along with the top-flight
band, the concert featured Mr.
Arno Mars, a top jazz tenor
saxophonist
Tickets to the concert were
sold by the AHS band members,
who were competing for the
honor of accompanying the
school dance band members
when they travel to Reno Ne
vada later this year.
Coming events In the month
of February for the band In
clude: a performance at the
Camp White Domiciliary, set
for February 15.
Girls Trounce Boys
Dropped By Faculty
The Girls' Recreation Associa
tion team defeated the team of
Lettermen and then lost to the
faculty and alumni team at the
recent powder puff basketball
game.
The girls had httle trouble the
first half as they outclassed the
team of Lettermen and rolled
to an easy 13-8 victory. Largely
respopnstble for the Lettermen's
loss were a total of nine tech
nical fouls called on the team
and their hot-headed coach, Rick
Waddell.
Members of the Lettermen's
yell squad, John Mitchell, Jerry
Sessions, Robert Williamson,
Bruce Oden, and Chris Hays,
were also responsible for sev
eral technicals.
Ball handling aeemed to be
a problem for the boys on the
Lettermen's squad as they were
allowed to play with only one

Six Years' Study
Monte, a violinist, has studied
music for more than six years
both as an orchestra class stu
dent and privately. Last year
she was selected to represent
Ashland High School in the all
state orchestra.
Monte's other activities In
clude Pen Club. American Field 1 V ' v
Service, Drama Guild, and Stu-
dent Council. Presently, she is
nno nt five Ashlanrt Hieh School
senior girls competing for one
of 12 finalist positions in the
Miss Rogue Valley Pageant She
plans to perform a violin con
certo for the talent portion of
the contest
Often Sings
Barbie, who sines also, has
been a choir member since sev-
enth grade. Her voice training (
has been mainly the result of
special help from various choir 1
directors. Barbie often sings
for various programs at her
church. She has also performed
for numerous school functions,
Rotary Club, Job's Daughters,
Youth for Christ, Jackson Coun
ty Republicans, the American
Legion Auxiliary, and the post
office dedication.
Many Activities
Barbie's extra-curricular ac
tivities include being junior
class social chairman, an honor
society member, and Girls'
League prpesident. Last year
she represented AHS as a mem
ber of the all-state choir and at
, Girls' State. Barbie also partici-
hand. The prime factor affect
ing the outcome of the game
was probably the officiating of
Mr. John Barlow and Mr. Keith
Mobley.
The second half was a differ
ent story as the experience of
the faculty carried them to a
12-6 win over the G.R.A. team.

Teresa Spence and Lisa Turn
bleson were recently named
semi-finalists in competition for
the National Honor Society
Scholarship. They were chosen
on the basis of their Preliminary
Scholastic Aptitude Test scores.
The P.S.A.T. tests were offered
to all seniors in Honor Society.
Lisa and Terry received the
highest scores in Ashland High
School. Their rank in class, ac
tivities, teacher's recommenda
tion, and test score will deter
mine whether or not they will
be selected as this year's winner
of the scholarship.
Scholarship
The winner will receive a
four-year scholarship to the
college of his choice. The
amounts range from $500 up to
$6,000. Both girls could win, one
could win, or neither could win.
The decision of the judges will
be announced the first part of
March.

What type of food would a
person expect to receive at a
$250 a plate dinner? Well, this
is what Ed Krahel found out
when he attended Governor Rea
gan's inauguration Jan. 4 and 5.
It all began when Ed was
visiting in California. He re
ceived an invitation to the in
augural ceremonies. Upon ac
ceptance of the invitation, Ed
first attended a concert, where
he listened to Jack Benny play
his violin.
Hears Speech
On Thursday morning, a re
view of the parade and the
Governor's speech were the
events Ed attended. Thursday
evening ended the ceremonies
with a $250 a plate reception
and a formal ball at the Gover-
dot's hall.
