Final Statistics Released
The Ashland Grizzlies finished
fourth in the conference with a
3-2 record. This is the first time
in many years that Ashland has
compiled such a good league
record.

The Letterman club president
likes to participate in football,
baseball, and basketball. Wil
liamson has lettered two years
in football and baseball, and
one year in basketball.
Williamson felt that his best
offensive effort of the season
was against Roseburg, and de
fensively against Grants Pass.
Williamson stands six feet and
weighs in at 180 pounds. Hunt
ing and fishing are his favorite
hobbies. He lists steak, prawns,
and hamburgers as his favorite
foods.

Individually, in the scoring
department. Gene Willis led
with 72; Joey Williamson was
next with 55, Rick Waddell with
17; Mike Krug with six; Lon
Gossage with six; and Craig
Korthase with six.
Passing
Willis threw 216 passes, and
completed 101. Krug threw
three and completed one; Son
ny Sixkiller threw nine and
completed three.
Rushing, Willis ran up 533
yards; Krug 278; Mitchell 65;
and Wood 64 yards.
Joey Williamson led the pass
receivers, followed by John
Mitchell and Craig Korthase.

Conquer Comets;
Defeated By Pels
In an easy homecoming vic
tory last Friday, the Ashland
High Grizzlies handed the Cra
ter Comets their seventh loss,
18-7.
Quarterback Gene Willis led
the Grizzlies on their first drive
early in the first quarter, cap
ping it off by running the ball
over for six points. The extra
point attempt failed.
Second TD
The Comets held the Bears at
60 until late in the second
period, when Willis hit Joey
Williamson with a pass for the
second TD. Tom Davis recov
ered a Crater rumble to set up
the goal. The conversion at
tempt missed again. At the half,
the score was 12 0.
The Comets again held the
Bruin offense scoreless during
the third stanza, but with one
minute gone in the fourth, Craig
Korthase took a pass in the end
zone for six more points. On
the extra point attempt, a clip
ping penalty caused it to be
called back. The next try, from
the 18 yard line, was unsuc
cessful. Comets Score
With six minutes left in the
game. Crater's Bill Bartley re
turned a punt deep into Ash
land territory. Two plays and
an extra point later, the score
was 187.
There was no more scoring
in the game and the final tally
was 187.
The outstanding player of
the game was Mike Krug. Car
rying the ball a good part of
the time, the senior back gained
129 yards on 25 runs.
The win over Crater finished
the Bruins' season 5-4 and 32
for conference play.
The Friday before home
coming, the Bears hosted the
Klamath Pelicans in Ashland.
The Pels killed any chances for
the Grizzlies to go to state by

Rick was injured. In an un
usual switch, Tex Willis re
ceived a pass thrown by Mike
Krug for the Bears' only score.
Rick Waddell's extra point was
good, making the final score
27-7.

Fall To Klamath
Ashland High School's sopho
more football team went down
to defeat at the hands of Kla
math Falls by a score of 27-7.
Klamath got on the score
board first when Kay Ferreira
was tackled in the endzone for
a safety. From then on it was a
hard-fought, defensive game for
both teams until Ashland scored
with 3:22 left in the second
period. The extra point attempt
was good and Ashland went
ahead 7 2 as the first half ended.
In the second half it was all
Klamath Falls and at the end
of the third quarter Klamath
maintained a 14-7 lead.
Ashland could not catch up
in the fourth period and lost
27 7. In the first meeting of the
clubs this year Klamath beat
Ashland 19-0.
