The Grants Pass thinclads took first in the Rot!ue Valley Relays with 83, Medford second with t 67, and Crater last with 28. - Tim Voth set a new javelin 1 record with a heave of 213 Vi feet, breaking the mark he set ? in the Cal-Ore Relays of 210 feet. Tex Willis placed second t in the discus. Willis also set a I discus record in the Cal-Ore Re- F lays with a toss of 150 feet. CalOre Results I. Roer Springer took a second in the pole vault. In the Cal Ore Relays, Ash land's shuttle team, 2-mile re lay team, Randy Nelson in the high jump, and the sprint med ley team took first places with the shuttle team breaking the record with a time of 58.0. The team consisted of Nelson, Roger Bear Netmen JV 5-2; Fall Although a rash of postponed and canceled tennis matches have plagued the AHS quintet, the Grizzly netmen have com piled a 1-1 early season mark. The Bruins dropped their initial encounter to the top rated Roseburg Indians 7-0 as did Crater and Grants Pass. In the initial match, Derek Leask, Ashland's foreign ex change student, fought the closest match. Although he dropped the first set 6-1 to Rick Wilson, last year's state singles champ, the New Zealander handled Wilson's shots better in the second as he succumbed The Bruin third doubles team of Doug Kirby and John Kaegi battled the next closest match of the afternoon. The two took six games from Roscburg's fifth and sixth singles men as they lost 6-2, 6-4. Make Comeback The varsity netters made a successful comeback against the SOC JV's with Leask, Jack Ra gan, Doug Kirby and doubles duos consisting of Leask and Jerry Bevens, and Ragan and Ken Clark all victors in their matches. Scores showed Ragan over Bob Reid 6-1. 8-6: Leask over Jack McWhorter 6-1, 6-4; Ray Raves over Clark 10-8, 6-2; Kirby over Art Detreich 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. In doubles, AHS downed Jones and McWhorter 6-2, 6-3, and the Bruin second team won 86. The Bears meet Klamath Falls tomorrow at 1 p.m. on the home courts. Baseball Nine Falls To Tornado Batters The AHS varsity baseball team was defeated by Medford 14-1 Saturday, April 9. Ashland received one run, three hits and four errors while Medford tal lied 14 runs, ten bits and no errors. Ashland scored 64 Ms points to Medford's 41 Vi and Crater's 14. Setting new school records for the Grizzlies were: Judy Jameson, 100 yard dash, 12.0; Carlista Holland, 440 yard run, 68.1; Maria Anderson, 880 yard run, 2:51.8; Susan RilTe, long jump, 14.2; Lyla Voth, discus, 127 ft 1 in. Miss Laney, track coach, com mented on the team by saying, "Everyone did a real good job. The girls really came through. Not only those who came in first, but all the girls helped. It was a real team effort!" wins and four losses. The Grizz lies beat Eagle Point 7-5 and defeated Bend 5-0 in a double hitter. The second game came out 2-1 in favor of Bend. Re sults of other games are, Med ford over the Bruins 20-1 and 53. Clark Scores Scoring Ashland's only run was Terry Clark, who scored on a fly-out sacrifice by Mike Schoonover. Other players who hit for Ashland were Ross Cold well and Rick Waddell. Pitching for Ashland was Waddell, Clark, and Burt Gett ling, while Don Wilson and Mike Farthing pitched for Med ford. The losing pitcher was Waddell and the winning pitcher was Farthing. Waddell walked four and struckout one, while Clark walk ed two and struckout three. Ashland won two of the five matches, while the Tornado took three. Steve Roberts stroked a 79 on the par 72 course for the Grizzlies, while Steve Hausel played a 74 for the Medford squad.
