Pam Lewis
Wins Tickets
Pam Lewis, Ashland High
School senior, recently won two
tickets to the opera "Madame
Butterfly" at the Oriental
Theatre in Portland.
Pam applied for the tickets by
writing a letter telling her rea
sons for wanting to go and turn
ing it in to her counselor. Pam
wrote that she would like to go
because she is interested in
music and is planning on ma
joring in music in college. She
ended her letter by thanking
the foundation for giving so
many students the opportunity io
witness a real opera.
Although Madame Butterfly
was sung in Italian, Pam said
she enjoyed the performance.
Pam had her choice between
Madame Butterfly and Carmen,
and chose Madame Butterfly
after reading about the operas
and studying the reviews.
While Pam was in Portland,
she also attended the opera
"Cinderella" which was showing
at popular prices. She preferred
Cinderella because "the artists
were much better and the or
chestra was just tremendous."
A friend from Salem accom
panied Pam and used the other
ticket. Pam said the experience
was very enjoyable and edu
