Any Complaints?
There are many things which have helped to
make America great. But perhaps the most impor
tant thing which has contributed to America's great
ness is the rights of the individual. Among these
rights every individual possesses is their right to
freedom of speech.
This freedom of speech has created riots, des
troyed towns, corrupted cities, and caused the death
of many people. However, it has also given the
American citizen a concrete foundation on which he
can base his beliefs.

of America's most precious rights. A right which
many people have given their lives for.
The Rogue News is a student newspaper. It tries
to give some idea of what is happening here at AHS.
But the Kogue News cannot achieve its main purpose
without the help of you. You can contribute your
ideas and feelings about school functions and activi

VANITY FAIR

Now that several local stores
are beginning to advertise the
controversial new "granny
dresses," a question being asked
by many Ashland High School
girls is, "May we wear them to
school?"
What is a granny dress? If you
can form a mental picture of the
kind of dress that your grand
mother may have worn when she
was your age, then you probably
have a fair idea of what a granny
dress is.
Since the beginning of school,
especially at several Oregon high
schools. Because they are prob
ably only a passing teen-age fad,
many parents object to buying
granny dresses for their daugh
ters. Two objections that are
being voiced by many school ad
ministrations are that not all
girls can afford to buy such
dresses and that they are not
entirely safe because they tend
to restrict walking, especially on
stairs.

To the Editor,
This letter is to bring to your
attention an article you printed

Dear Editor,
I was very disappointed in the
article on the Boy Scouts who
went on trips this summer. The
Rogue News completely neglected
to mention who actually did go.
I think an apology is due to
those boys who did go and an
article mentioning who did go.
Such a trip is rather an honor
and the participants should be
named in an article about the
trip.
Sincerely,
Susan Beecher
Editor's Note: You are correct,
an apology is due to the boys
who went on the American
tour. Their names were inad
vertently left out of the story
in the last issue of the ROGUE
NEWS. The two Ashland boys
were Nardy-Hamm and Mike
Reed.

Thanksgiving is indeed an
American tradition. In 1864, Pres

the first presidential proclama

as an American holiday on the
fourth or last Thursday in No

Thanksgiving on a different date.
For instance, Canada celebrates
Thanksgiving the second week in
October. So Thanksgiving Day,

What does the club really do? Interclub Council
gives each club the opportunity to discuss and solve

To have an effective organization of clubs all
presidents must cooperate. If even one club fails to
