Some of the hikers were Walk ing after Midnight, while others wanted to Walk on the Wild Side. One fellow was Walking to Missouri. He kept saying "I Can See an Angel Walking," but no one else could see her. One little boy wanted to go on a hike, but his mother told him to Walk Right Back. His toon-age sister told him to Walk On. His father told him he could go if he promised to Walk, Don't Run. Remember, don't be gone long because there might be someone Walking the Floor over You! Girls P.E. classes were very busy the week of March 4-8, during which they were taking the Oregon Motor Fitness Test This consists of three skills (1) curl-ups; (2) standing broad jump; (3) flexed-arm hanb. These skills are scored ac cording to the state norms or state-points system. Total points possible are 300. To score 100 on the curl-ups a sophomore must complete 121, juniors and seniors 123; for the standing broad jump a sophomore must jump 105 inches, juniors and seniors 106 inches; and on the flexed-arm hang a sophomore must hang 104 seconds, juniors and seniors 106 seconds. Points of the three skills are combined, and those having 197 or more are classed superior. Ninety-five of the sophomores have completed their tests and of these IS had superior, 34 good, 36 fair, 8 poor and 2 inferior. The senior girls who were classed superior were Julia Knies with 237 and Nancy Raspone with 220. Life in Ashland High School has been a steady bombardment of mental, physical, and personal tests. One strenuous series of tests after another face the hapless student It's the same old class struggle of oppressor vs. the oppressed. The teachers warm up with their batteries of six week tests. Then they prepare for the truly over whelming onslaught - SEMESTER TESTS. At first the masters concoct their weapons of terror in secret. Somehow the news leaks out, however, and the students are faced with a horrifying reality. "Final exams are this Thursday and Friday." Valiantly, every last man, woman, and child from the AHS student body attempts des perate counter defenses by cram ming. It's too late though, be cause T-hour approaches with the certainly of death. For six. long, ninety-minute periods, the students bravely fight the crush ing attack of mid year tests. Hour after hour, brave students struggle. They suffer innumerable casualties such as writing cramp. lack of sleep, headaches, and eyestrain. On and on the battle rages until suddenly the teachers pull a strategic retreat at 3:30 on Friday. Shouts, dancing, and ringing bells mark the cele bration. But this is only the beginning. Almost every day the teachers make new invasions armed with new tests. Iowa Achievement blockbusters and National Merit bombs punch holes in the junior defense lines. The teachers gain allies from College Entrance Exam Boards and Mathematical quizes to attack the seniors, not to mention more six-weeks tests. Smashing victories by teacher demand improved counter de fenses such as good study habits. The many victims still somehow struggle back for more punish ment since there are no replacement.
