Ashland Ace Takes Third in State
Gerald Brown, the "Golden
Boy" of the Ashland cross-country
team, took third place in the
slate meet at Eugene, Saturday,
February 23. The five-mile
course was covered by the AHS
'speedster" in the time of 27
minutes 41 seconds flat. This
time was the best ever turned
in by the "Golden Boy" of Mr.
Crane's Cross-country harriers.
Gerald was just lk second
behind the winner Jim Price
of South Salem, who finished
the race with a 27:39.5 clocking.
Placing second in the state in
vitational, was Doug Minsner of
Grant (Portland), with the time
of 27:39, just one second ahead
of the Ashland ace.
For Gerald Brown this was
just another race in the sport
that he really likes, but for
AHS it meant a large percentage
of the student body could walk
a little taller. Congratulations,
Gerald Brown, for a fine effort
in representing the AHS student
body!

Wrestling is very much alive
at Ashland High School these
days. Wrestling is one of the most
competitive of all sports and also
is one of the oldest and least
known of sports. It requires a
high degree of skill that comes
only after many hours of pract
icing and perscrverance.
Mr. Keith Mobley is the -wrestling
coach for Ashland High. The
coaching of wrestling is rather
new to him, but he has worked
hard at it and has trained many
boys who have placed high in
wrestling in the state.

One of the main problems in
the lack of enthusiasm in this
sport is the lack of understanding
and knowledge of it. If we as stu
dents knew more about it, we
would be more interested. Should
we as a student body have an
assembly showing the art of wrest
ling? This is a suggestion that
has been voiced by many students
who desire to know something
of this sport. It is possible that
with some knowledge of this sport
would come more support for
those who give so much of their
time and effort in the perfection
of this skill.
Wrestling is gaining import
ance in the field of sports all
over the world. We see the same
thing to be true in the high
schools of the state of Oregon
With more boys participating and
more students supporting this
sport, the same thing will be
true at Ashland High.

TO GP AND MEDFORD
The Ashland Grizzlies encoun

top. The first quarter score was
tied at 12-each.
Ashland scored more points on
field goals but lost the game on
fouls as Grants Pass made 17
points from the charity line.

14-14 knot. In the second quarter
the Wind started to blow away
from the Bears and led at the

K. FALLS AND CRATER

The Klamath Falls Pelicans and

Klamath Falls led by 19 points
in the third quarter when the
Grizzlies started their come back
with Dale Tcpper and Rick Pierce
scoring heavily. The Grizzlies

goals but lost on foul shots.

with 12 points; Jim Lamb had 11;
Dale Tcpper, 10: Gale Hepper, 9.

tactics to beat Ashland 64-53 in
Ashland's last home game of the
season. Alvarez and Tomlinson
were unable to miss in the first
half and the Comets led at half
time by a score of 40-24.
