Tod. a 6' tall, 152 pound Grizzly was a big factor in Ashland's victories over Shasta and is bound to spark the Griz zlies to many more victories. Besides playing a brilliant game of basketball, Tod participates in track, is president of the AHS band and is a member of the let tcrmen's club. He is also a mem ber of the National Honor Society. Tod was born on February 19, 1945 in Ashland and has lived here all of his life. Toodles is a real outdoor sportsman and likes to hunt, fish, and hike. He ties flics for a hob'iy. This Grizzly would like to go to Oregon State University and major in forestry. Greg Lindley, making his debut as a Varsity player, led the Griz zlies' scoring with 17 points fol lowed by Tod Hess with 11 points. Rick I'ierci;, a two year veteran of the Grizzlies, scored four points, and was the playmaker for the Bears. Gale Tepper and Jim Lamb helped the Grizzlies' winning cause with eight and six joints respectively. The Grizzly defense, led by Mike Cotton, Pierce, and Hess, allowed the Wolves to score eight in every quarter, but there the scoring for the visiting Wolves was brought to a halt. In the final canto the hapless Wolves scored only seven points before I the Stingy Bears put the lid on I their opponent's basket. Matmen Lose First Match Thursday, December 13. Crater out matched the Griz zlies and scored 43-14 over the club. Clayton Schwattz. Ray Vance, Glen Smith, and Mike Blair were the only ones on our Club that won their match. Clayton pinned his opponent in the first round in the ninety-eight pound class. Ray won in the 123 pound class, Glen won in the 146 pound class, and Mike won in the 16f! pound class by decisions over their opponents. Matmcn Turnout Twenty-five gallant men have turned out for the 19R2-63 wrest ling season. In jayvee action the Ashland ers defeated the junior Wolves of Shasta, 39 to 27. Dave Bargcr led all scorers with 11 points. before a very small group of AHS students. The Grizzlies looked and play d like professionals during the first quarter when they took a 17 to 5 lead. George Keil's Bears were never in serious trouble throughout the rest of the game. but were a little "rowdy" during the second half of the contest. Greg Lindley again sparked the Ashlanders with ten points and a scrappy defensive game. Tod Hess followed in scoring with nine points, and Dale Tepper. Jim Lamb, and Rick Pierce scored seven, six, and six points respectively. In the J.V. game Ashland emerged victorious by one slim point, as the junior Bears down ed Shasta 34 to 33 in a game preceding the Varsity scuffle. The J.V.'s Were led by sophomore Dave Barger, who scored 13 points and was very strong under the boards. Dave was the one who calmly stepped to the free throw line and made good the two charity tosses that were given him, to win the game in the last second.
