wed., dec. 19, 1962 ROGUE NEWS PAGE THREE Oregon vs. Hawaii-A Difference? Last week I told you of the climate and dress of Hawaii. Now I shall tell you of a routine day of going to school. My day started at 5:00 A.M., NINETEEN INDUCTED AT F.T.A. CEREMONY On December 3, the Ashland chapter of the F.T.A. held its annual induction ceremony. The rites were conducted in the school library and began at 7:30 in the evening. Those members initiated were Barbara Barry, senior; Billie Jean Collins, senior; Isabel Converse, sophomore; Joyce Elmquest, sen ior; Linda Flood, senior; Dorothy Hunter, senior; Nancy Latimer, senior; Trudce Lewis, junior; Donna Martin, senior; Nancy Nickcson, junior; Mary Peabody, sophomore; Lonella Stephens, sophomore; Lloyd Stone, junior; Jan Susce, junior; Marcy Trets ven. junior; Marilyn Tompson, junior; Linda Weber, senior; Wen dy Wellcr, junior; and Doree Woodell, senior. Dr. Arthur Taylor of Southern Oregon College was guest speaker. He told about some of his exper iences in the early years of his leaching career. when I rose to get breakfast for my father and myself. My biggest chore was getting my father off to work in one piece and happy. My school bus picked me up at 6:45 A.M. If I missed that one, I misht as well start walking the 11 miles to school. I usually ar rived at school about 7:30, and school began at 7:50. We had a 20 minute break be tween the first two periods in the morning, and a one hour break for lunch. School let out at 3:30 and I arrived home about 4 P.M and started the few chores I had to do. After I finished my chores, I started my homework, which the teacher seldom gave very much of, and finished it in a few hours. I then had time to do whatever I wanted (go to the beach, one of my friends' house, etc.) until din ner time. After dinner, I had time to watch television, read, draw, or play my accordion, de pending on my mood .At 10:00 P.M., by habit, I went to bed (I was usually too tired to do any thing else by that time). This has been a routine day, but the next issue will carry a report of the school, and some of its functioning parts. Aloha! 6 J JEWELERS Love bright diamonds 283 East Main in Ashland ASHLAND BRANCH FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF OREGON Flair for Fashion By Linda Weber Soft flowing lovliness is the girl in the formal world this hol iday season. She doesn't walk, she floats in her pretty swirl of fashion. The season's parties will see many an American girl dressed in silk chiffons that have cap tured the attention of all. The skirts, short or long, swirl fab ulously free because of their many gathers or multitudes of small pleats flowing from the nat ural waistline. The deep, deep hem adds to the elegance of this beautiful skirt that is so flatter ing and full of swish. The bodice of the formal wear may be a surburst shirred or caught at the waist with a jewel ed pin or it may be a silk-lined shell of gold metallic brocade. Al most as popular will be the bodice with circles of white, silver, or gold-colored sequins. The style conscious girl may choose her evening wear with a gently scoop ed neckline, or the one with the shoe-string straps, or a shoulder- to-shoulder cowl neckline in front with a daringly low V back. The girl of this holiday season that does not care for the swishy chiffon may find her dream dress in satin, polished cotton, taffeta, or brocade. Whatever her choice, it will be found. A happy thought the holiday dress is not too hard on the ordinary pocket book. Merry Christmas and have a happy time at the Christmas Ball in your new, exciting Christmas dream dress .
