In order to gain the experience
needed to reoresent Brazil at
the state IRL conference. AHS's
IRL representatives attended the
pre-conference in Medford on
December 8. Ashland's attendance
vas gratifying.
The entire assembly was shock
ed when the Ashland delegation
representing Argentina threaten
ed to walk out if the delegation
from Ecuador was not given
vote. The Ecuadorian delegation
consisted of one member who
was supposed to be representing
another country. Ecuador rece iv-
ed the recognition that Argentina
demanded.
Ashland was noticed again
when Charles Hillestad, president
of Ashland's IRL suggested that
a delegate from Guatemala should
be replaced because the repre
sentative claimed that his coun
try was in a state of revolution.
The delegation felt that he was
not fit to represent his country's
government because it might not
be there when he returned.
Students from all over Southern
Oregon attended the pre-conference
and were impressed by Ash
land's fine representation. Mem
bers of the Ashland delegation
attending the conference were
Bruce Bamforth, Sami Everett,
Charles Hillestad, Barbara Law
rence, Jim Mayo, Charlie Moore,
John Proves, Jon Roberson, Di
ar.e Williams, and Doree Wood-cll.
trying to give Ashland High a
Christmas-like atmosphere.
The newly formed Art Service
Corps is responsible for the dec
orations on the bulletin boards
in the hall, in the office and in
the conference room. This group
has also erected the glittering
Christmas tree in the library as
well as the God's eyes in the win
dows which were made by the
Art I class. God's eyes or los ojoi
de Dios are beautiful Mexican-
Indian designs which symboliie
God's eye watching over the
home.
The Art Service Corps is com
posed not only of people with
artistic talent but those who are
interested in working with oth
ers. This club is a service organ
ization whose primary objective it
to improve the school's appear
ance through increased quantity
and quality of advertising, post
ers, and displays.
CONTRIBUTIONS WANTED
Take a long, serious look at
yourself Can you write a poem
a short story, or draw a picture?
This is the question that the
English department, and mem
bers of Quill and Scroll will be
asking all members of the student
body.
It is the aim of the sponsors
to have the best Literary Review
possible. It will be highly apprec
iated if all students will take an
active part in this project.
In case some students do not
know what the Literary Review
is, it is a collection of original
poems, short stories, or even pic
tures published by Quill and
Scroll. All entries will be given
consideration and those included
will be chosen by a committee
from the English Department and
Quill and Scroll Club.
