The Grizzlies I could beat every team in the league but they aren't. Why? The biggest reason is the defeatist attitude which seems to be pre valent. Ashland High is larger than Redmond, Prineville, and Vreka. We should have beaten them. In fact, if our team were inspired, they could defeat any school. Why doesn't the team have the will to win? Because the school isn't backing them up and neither are the parents of the player. When the Grizzlies come home from an away game, their parents and fellow students greet them with the statement, "The other team was so much larger, and it's a shame that you have to go out there and play your hearts out Pictured from left to right are Gale Tepper, Don Sorenson, Dennis Ekwall, Mike Cotton, and Don Scholer. RONDO LANES 1505 Siskiyou Blvd. Take a dote BOWLING! Perrines On the Plaza BETTER CLOTHES & For I.ess Money when you can't win." Our team doesn't need pity; it needs pride. Another reason for Ashland's losing is that there is a "lot of beef" running up and down the halls that should be out playing for the team, giving it the boost it needs to win. Our team can win! Let's back them up all the way! Klamath JV's Drop Ashland Our junior varsity team went' over the hill to tangle with the Klamath cluh on Saturday after noon. Sept. 29. They dropped the ;amc to the Klamath club by a score of 33-0. The nearest our team came to scoring was when they reached the Klamath 25 yard line. According to .Mr. Leybold, our main problem was the lack of experience and a weak offense. Another cause was our weak secondary defense which let the Klamath club get by us with long passes and runs around the ends. He also stated that it is hard to have a good junior varsity team when the varsity is made up of sophomores. Our junior varsity team did a real good job with what they had to do with. This was a tough game for the Bruins to lose. Ashland led in statisics and had many scoring opportunities but were unable to get the ball to paydirt. At one time Ron Boyce ran 50 yards for a touchdown, but it was called back because of a clipping penalty. Bad breaks and penalties hurt both teams. Prineville scored in the first and last quarters while the Bears dominated the play during the rest of the game. On the first play from scrimmage, Larry Kirk- patrick romped 57 yards to make a touchdown for the Cowboys. Dick Caudle ran the extra point. In the second and in the third quarter the Grizzlies were inside the ten-yard line but Prinevillc's terrific goal-line stand together with Ashland's hard luck kept the Bears from scoring. In the final quarters the Cowboys intercepted a pass and drove to the Grizzly six-yard line where Mike Barrow threw to wingback Jack Bishop for the final touchdown. Their try for the extra point failed. Ron Boyce and Don Scholar were outstanding in the backfield and Don Sorenson played specta cular game in the line.
