Grizzlies Travel
To Redding Calif.
Next week the Ashland High
Grizzlies will play Phoenix Ore
gon in a non-conference bout.
Phoenix is in the A-2 conference
while Ashland is an A-l school.
Friday night the basketball
game will be played on the Grizzly
maplecourt, and the following
night, on the Pirate court.
On December 8 and 9, the Ash
land Grizzlies traveled to the
home of the Shasta Wolves at
Redding, California.
In Friday night's game, the
Grizzlies took an early lead, and
ended the first quarter by a 9
to 5 score.
Shasta managed to overcome
the lead with the help of Grizzly
bad passes. They were in front
20 to 15 at halftime and kept a
lead all through the rest of the
game. Shasta ended the three
quarter mark by 33-19, but the
Grizzlies came back in the fourth
quarter to narrow the gap to six
points making the final score 41-35
in favor of the Wolves.
For Shasta, Larry Gardner scor
ed 14 points, and Mike Perkins,
13 points. Gale Tepper led the
Grizzlies with 12 points.
Following Night
Saturday night's game was a
different story. Ashland defeated
the Shasta Wolves on the Wolves
court 48 32.
The Grizzlies led all the way
with quarter scores of 11 to 8,
17 to 15, 34 to 22, and 48 to 32.
Larry Pierce was high point
man for the night, and the
Grizzlies with 17 points.

the Grizzlies had a .197 average.
High scores for the Comets were
Louis Alvarez with 22 points and
Jeff Anhorn with 11. Rick and
Larry Pierce had 14 and 12 points
respectively for Ashland.
Next week Ashland will play
Grants Pass at Grants Pall on Fri
day night, and Medford at Med
ford on Saturday night. Grants
Pass is down in the cellar with
the Grizzlies, while the Medford
Tornado team is trying for top
honors in the conference.

first win in conference action,
while the Tornado's were trying
to increase their bid for first
place in the conference. As stand
ings show, the Tornado is in a
first place conference tie with
Klamath Falls.

Klamath, the No. 1 rated prep
contingent, took an early lead in
the game, and stayed in front all
the way with quarter scores of
27 8, 46-24, and 66 to 30 at the
third quarter rest.
Kent Hunsaker was the big
offensive gun for the Pelicans
scoring 36 points. His teammates
Patzke and Allen followed with
11 points each. Top scorers for
the Grizzlies were: Rick Pierce,
Gale Tepper. and Bob King with
11 points each.

was high scorer with 17 points,
while George Clearwater, his
teammate, and Tod Hess of Ash
land each had 12 markers each.
Gale Tepper of the Grizzlies was
the only other player in double
figures with 10 points.
