were defeated by the Grants Pass
Cavemen by a 6-0 score.
In the first half of the ball
game, the Grizzles and the Cave

as the Cavemen, had many scoring

Uabell made most of the yardage
to the Ashland 12 yard line. With
fourth down and a one-yard-
to-go situation, Isabell bulled
through the line and fumbled the
ball. He recovered his own fumble
on the one-foot line, and from
there the Caveman scored. Bob
Lcwellyn's kick was wide of the
goal posts.
During the remainder of the
third quarter and the fourth
quarter, the scoring column re
mained empty. -The Grizzles put
two other possible scoring march
es together, but failed to fcore.
Non-Conference Clash
In a non-conference game, the
Ashland Grizzles traveled to the
home of the Del Norte Warriors.
Ashland topped Del Norte by a
20 to 12 score.
Ashland's first touchdown came
mdiway through the first quarter.
Kon Scholer went over from three

Conference Clash
Last Friday, the Grizzles travel
ed to Medford for an important
conference game. Althought the
Grizzles were defeated, they prov
ed to be a determined team.
Late second quarter passes were
the only touchdowns for the Black
Tornado team. Scott Eaton passed
to Jack Lowery for 35 yards and
the first TD. Seconds later, Tim
White passed seven yards to Sara
Eaton for the other. Dan Miles
added both the extra points.
One of the highlights of the
game, was a 79 yard punt by Ash
land's Rod Fuller. He punted from
behind his own 17 yard line. The
ball traveled through the air and
took a good bounce and roll which
was finally received on the Med
ford four by Mike Barnes.
Although the Grizzles couldn't
get their offense going, their
defensive unit held the Black Tor
nado to short gains. The Tornado
unit held the Grizzles for even
shorter yardage.
run by Ron Boyce were the scores
for Ashland. Frank Sillivant made
the safety. An interesting fact was
that almost all of the Ashland
players were sophomores.
A conference game with Grants
Pass while Aihland was tied for
first place in the JV conference
with them, proved to be the sore
spot of the season for Ashland.
They were tromped 39-7 with
Dean Samuelson scoring our only
touchdown. Another sad incident
was that Bob Johnson broke his
arm.
In the conference game with
Medford, the Junior Varsity Grizz
lies were handed their second
straight setback by a lopsided
score of 38-13. Ron Boyce scored
both TD s one, on a one yard
plunge and the other on an 80
yard scoring play.
Ia the non-conference game
with Medford, the Tornadoes
scored three times in the first
half to make it 20-0. In the
second half, Ashland marched the
kickoff back for a touchdown with
Dale Tepper going the final 7
yards. Johnson kicked the extra
point. In the last quarter Ashland
scored again with Johnson going
the last 7 yards. Johnson's kick
failed and the final score was
20-13.
In the second non-conference
game of the season the JV's beat
the Yreka Junior Varsity by a
score of 26-20. Ron Boyce scored
' the first two TD's one, on a short
run and the other on a 65 yard
