ROGUE NEWS
FRI., SEPT. 22, 1961
An Editorial Message . . .
All good things must come to an end and so it is
with summer vacations. As September 11 rolled a
round this year, the hallowed halls of Ashland High
School once more reverberated with the sounds of
somewhat reluctant footsteps, cries of recognition as
classmate passed classmate in the hall, and bewilder
ed moans of lost sophomores.
These ivy-decked halls hold a great deal of sig
nificance to the junior and senior students as they
continually strive to uphold the traditions of those
who have passed before them.
As each year passes and each class moves one
"notch" higher to the top, it becomes increasingly
harder to maintain these traditions. Therefore, as
we begin a new school year, let's stop, think, and
evaluate ourselves as members of the associated stu
dent body.
Every student in Ashland High School has an ob
ligation to his teachers, friends and fellow students
to fulfill his duties as a class member.
The sophomore class takes on a number of new
responsibilities. Besides adjusting to high school life,
they are required to build and guard the large bon
fire for our annual homecoming rally.
The junior class moves into a new position of re
spect and authority as upperclassmen. Upon them
rests the burden of raising enough money to sponsor
the annual Junior-Senior Prom.
For the senior class, this year will be a period of
transition. Although they may enter school as care
free students, they must emerge in the spring as ma
ture individuals, ready to take their place in an adult
world.
The Rogue News, hoping to become a vital force
in shaping the activities of the various students, will
endeavor to contribute as much as possible to the de
velopment of student spirit and cooperation.
We must remember that nothing great is achiev
ed entirely alone. A cooperative effort is required to
create a school atmosphere of which we can all be
proud. K. S.
