This concludes the story of five minutes in the life of an average Ashland High Student, -borrowed from "The Scroll"- ASHS EE EA TO 3S TOP TCURMAI'ENT Top performance at the debate tour nament held at Marshfield high School November 12, was turned in by the Ash land High School debate team. Ashland entered six teams in the tournament, five of which finished first or second in their respective divisions, Jerry Burns and Pete Kreisman, s nd Jim Lewis end Bill lawerence tied for first place in the senior men's division. Tied for second place in the senior women's division were Linda Neal and Linda Lewis, and Karen Schopf end Judy Eberhart. In the junior men's .division, the team of Galen Hoberson end Peggy Parsons tied for second place. j, Doree Woodell and Susan Tompson also showed well in the junior women's divi sion, finishing with three wins and two losses. MR. SILVER FOUNT AS ffiPO.iTER Inspection of the back files of the A Rogue News' revealed that Mr. Lud Silver, now dean of boys, was once a reporter on the Rogue staff.' He said that he had written primarily sports articles for the paper. In addit ion to reporting, he was elected first president of the Quill and Scroll organ ization at Ashland High School. Mr. Sil ver received his IS and M3 degrees, while attending S.O.C. After college he taught at the junior high for eight years before coming to Ashland High School, Mr. Silver has taught business math, world history, business la,T,' and science. For the last three years he has been dean of boys. Mr. Silver stated that in 20 years he had forgotten e great deal about journalism, but added that if, had helped him in the organization and sum mary of letters and reports. They must be worked, push ed, and formed into creative beings. This was the main point Dr. Lorrene Ort made in her speech, at the A.S.C.D. Con ference, November 1, and November 2, h held at the junior high school. This conference was attended by Mrs. Lucy Susee, and Mrs. ,Sema McAlaster. Tne Oregon organization is five years old and is a part of the much ol der national organization. A.S.C.D. stands for the Association of Supervis ion and Curriculum Development. In her speech, that inspired many of the teachers, Dr. Ort went on to say that creativity is an analysis of self and pursuit of insight. Creative teach ers seek solutions to riddles or problems. Tney do not attemot to place the culture of a race in a pickling brine. Teach-' ing takes all of the teacher, not just a part.
