Voris and Farmer Win
District Championships
Medford piled up 154
points to win the District A-l
track championship May 20, on
the Ashland track.
zAshland's Bob Voris triumph
ed in the high hurdles with a
14.6 clocking to tie, for the sec
ond time in two years, the dis
trict record. Forrest Farmer
gained a share of the high jump
crown by finishing in a four
way tie for first at 5 feet, 10
inches. On the basis of fewest
misses, however, Farmer was
first.
Grants Pass finished the meet
with 137 V points for second
place. Far behind was Crater
with 53, Ashland with 40,
and Klamath Falls with 34.
Other point getters for Ash
land were Tom Huff, sixth in
the javelin; Voris, fourth, and
Farmer, fifth in the broad
jump; Don Way, fourth, mile;
Mike CcCartney, sixth, discus:
Voris, third and Farmer, sixth,
low hurdles; and Dave Colwell,
tie for thrd, and Dan Lewis, tie
for sixth, pole vault.
First and second place finish
ers qualify for the state meet
in Corvallis. Any others that
meet the qualifying standards
also qualify. Voris qualified in
the low hurdles by running a
20.3 third place.

KLAMATH WINS
TRACK MEET
Klamath Falls defeated the
Ashland track team 75-48 on
April 22.
Ashland won four events and
tied for first in two others.
Winners for Ashland included
Bob Voris in the high hurdles,
Forrest Farmer in the low hur
dles, Farley Buell in the mile,
and Bob Ford in the half-mile.
Tying for first place were
Stewart Hedges in the high
jump and Dan Lewis in the
pole vault.
GRIZZLIES DEFEATED BY
CRATER HIGH CLUB
The Ashland Grizzlies could
muster only three hits off Crat
er hurler Dennis Pfaff in a
baseball game May 2 and went
down to defeat 5-2.
Crater scored two runs in the
second inning, but Ashland
squared matters with two runs
in the third. Crater won the
game in the fifth inning with
two more runs.

scored Ashland's two wins in a
5-2 loss to Medford's tennis
team.

HELD AT AHS
"Come and play with GAA!"
jThis was the invitation extend
ed to all GAA members and
ninth graders to attend a soft-
ball playday held May 13, at
the Ashland Senior High foot
ball field under the supervis
ion of Miss Henderson, GAA
advisor.
Activity began at 9:00 a.m.
continuing through 12:00 p.m.,
during which time the girls par
ticipated in mixed baseball
teams. For lunch t he members
brought their own sack lunch
es and punch was served.

Girl's Athletic Association held
election of officers for the com
ing school year.

AHS Upsets Pels
In Baseball Game
Ashland won its first con
ference baseball game April 15
by upsetting the Klamath Falls
Pelicans 3-2.
Bob King pitched a four-hitter
for Ashland. The Klamath
duo of John Webb and Wally
Palmberb also gave up four
hits. The difference in the game
lay in the fielding. The Pels
committed three errors, while
the Grizzlies played errorless
ball.
Ashland scored two runs in
the third inning on two hits
and two errors by the Pelicans.
The third AHS tally was pick
ed up in the fifth.
Klamath scored one run in
each of the fourth and sixth
innings.
The non-conference game
which followed resulted in a
17-0 romp for Klamath Falls.

Granfs Pass Cops
Three-Way Meet
In a three-way track meet
held in Grants Pass, May 6,
Grants Pass won with a total of
91 points, Crater placed second
with 36 'i points, and Ashland
finished behind with 23 ',i
points.
Bob Voris took all three of
Ashland's first places, triumph
ing in both the high and the
low hurdles and the broad
jump.
Other point-getters were For
rest Farmer, second in the high
jump; Stewart Hedges, fifth in
the high jump; Mike McCart
ney, third in the discus; end
Farley Buell, third in the mile.

Ashland picked up iis sec
ond baseball victory over Pros
pect this season, defeating them
7-4 April 22.
First scoring came in the
third inning with Ashland scor
ing two runs and Prospect pick
ing up one tally. In the fifth
the Grizzlies scored the win
ning runs scoring three times
with the aid of thrae fielding
errors and one walk given up
by the Prospect pitcher. Tne
only hit in the inning was a
double by Larry Pierce,
Prospect added another run
in the sixth inning and both
teams picked up two more
scores in the seventh.
