An interesting comment
from Delbert "Tiny" Jones,
former AHS basketball star,
reveals that in 1936 - 1937
AHS beat Medford four times,
Grants Pass four times, and
played Klamath 3 times, win
ning twice and losing once.

Turning Out
"If we win seven matches
this year, I'll be happy," de
clared Mr. Cliff Engel, wrest
ling coach. "Last year we won
four matches, which consider
ing it was the first year, was
n't bad in this conference."
There is some promising tal
ent this year, states Engel. In
addition to five returning let
termen, fifty - nine students
have turned out for the squad.
Returning this year are Buz
zy Parker (112); Larry Schmal
tz (133); Ron Johnson (145);
and George Moses (155). A few
outstanding prospects thus far
are: Ken Mitchell (127): Mike
Rust (127); and John Ussery
(155).
Some of the teams the Griz
zly grapplers are matched a
gainst are Medford, Klamath
Falls, Grants Pass, Roseburg,
and Glendalc.
Mr. Engle summarized the
forecast for the conference
with the prediction that Grants
Pass and Klamath Falls are
better than the less experienc
ed Ashland squad at the pre
sent time.
The squad is now composed
of 20 freshmen, 23 sophomores,
8 juniors, and 9 seniors. The
bulk of the talent will come
later from the underclassmen.
