Our majorette squad con sists of four girls: Lani Knox (head), Diana Cullop, Diane Cochran, Karen Cochran. . , ... ., . . girls with new uniforms of red velveteen lined in white taf ata, trimmed in white braid and rhinestones, and a red net can-can. This year the majorettes are affiliated with the band more than in previous years. Toward the end of football season they plan to include freshmen girls in majorettes for experience. Yell Leaders The yell leaders have new outfits this year consisting of red and white culots and red turtle-neck sweaters whi c h will be used during football season. Supplementing the out fits are dainty white gloves and ear muffs. Basketball uniforms are white Dleated skirU and red nd white reversible skirts with white V-neck sweaters 1 . . . middies and red jerseys. Headed by yell king Buzzy Parker and queen Barbara Stoddard, the squad, composed of Sue Weller, Carol Lininger, rrisciua weuson, uonna wu liamson and Sally Lane, has aaaea new aance sieps auu new yells to their repertoire. Pepsters Pepsters have purchased new uniforms this year in keeping up with the yell lead- ers and the band. Red pleated skirts, white sweaters with em blems, and red and white rock and roll shoes make this groiro a colorful part of the pep club. Pom pom routines and spe cial yells are features of this spirited group at football and basketball games. Officers for this club that is open to girls of all classes are Carol Lininger, president; . In addition to "teaching three periods of math and three periods of boys' physical education, he is assisting "Snuffy" Smith in coaching freshman football. He will be head wrestline coach and head track coach. However, Mr. Engel comes to Ashland High with an out standing background which fully qualifies him for this heavy load. A graduate of Lin field College in McMinnville, Mr. Engel majored in physical education and minored in so ciology and physics. Margaret Hull and Judy Fa der were the representatives to Girls' State. The purpose of Girl's State is to give girls a chance to learn about their local and state governments. They do this by setting up model city, county, and state governments in which the girls themselves hold offices. Girls from all oyer the state of Oregon met at Willamette University where it was held. Margaret and Judy left Ash land at 2:30 a.m. June 16 by Greyhound bus. They stayed in a campus dorm at the uni versity. Each day they attend ed lectures and the model gov ernment sessions.
