The room resembled the in

hay, corn stalks, manzanita and

Friday, Oct. 21, 1955, was a fa
tal day for the Grizzlies as the
Crater High Comets clipped
Ashland 26 to 13 in a thrill
packed fracas at Central Point.
The first period opened with
the Comets scoring and the
Grizzlies coming back to tie up
the ball game marching from
their own 47 yard line for their
only sustained offensive drive
of the evening.
The Comets were well on
their way to the Grizzly end
zone early in the second quart
er when Duane Goyette drop
ped the pigskin near the 30-
yard line.
Johnson raced unmolested
after he scooped up the ball
for a 70 yard touchdown and
then climaxed his thrilling run
by kicking the extra point. The
Comets, using a plunging drive
made a touchdown and ran the
extra point to again tie the
score at 13-13 as the half ended.
The Grizzlies slowed consid
erably, allowing Goyette to
scamper through the entire
Grizzly sqaud for the tie-break
ing touchdown in the third
quarter.
In the fourth Bob Mason re
covered Locke's fumble on the
Ashland 22 yard line and using
a pass attack scored again. Goy
ette ran for the extra point.

The rest of the game was just
a matter of the Comets holding
their defenses while time ran
out leaving the final score at
13-26.

INTRAMURALS BEGIN
Girls' Speedway Intramurals
came to a close Friday, Nov. 4,
with team 2, co-captained by
Bonnie Cramer and Yvonne
Click, winning the tournament
with a two win, one tie record.
Volleyball Intramurals are
now in session. The first games
were played Monday, Nov. 7.
The scores of the games are as
follows: team 5 won over team
4. 22-8; team 6 over team 7,
29-15; team 2 over team 1, 23
14; and team 10 over team 9,
22-15.
There are ten teams, with
anywhere from eight to twelve
members on a team, in the Vol
leyball Intramurals. Their
names and captains are: "Dir
ty Dozzen (minus one)," Kathy.
Ingle: "Bear .Busters,", Yvonne
Click, "Johnson's Squirts," Ju
dy Johnson.
"Dazzlin' Angels," Dolly
Jack; "Mighty Mosquitos," Pat

Pulsipher, Teams 9 and 10, are
unnamed as yet.
The intramurals are held ev
ery Monday evening.

To Klamath Falls

Ending the 1955 football sea-'
son Friday, Nov. 4, the Griz
zlies lost a hard-fought 25-21
game to Klamath Falls.
Ashland trailed 18-0 in the
first half, but came back in the
tHird and fourth quarters. Tim

team could overcame the mar
gin. Early in the third quarter

A.H.S. GAME
Ashland High seniors can be
justly proud of their boys on
the football team this year.
Out of a 26-man squad that
went to Klamath there were 11
seniors.
Playing their last grid sea
son were Gene Parent, Phil
6word and Harry Johnson each
summing up his third year.
Playing their second year
were Lance Locke, Gene Allen,
Don Gilliam, and Dave Athan
as. Other seniors on the squad
were Bill Bebber, Bruce Ev
erett, Morton Scripter, John
Bjork, Richard Green, Gary
Watts and Randy Root. The
latter having played one or two
years of J. V. ball.

more
plays Johnson went over for
'he first touchdown.
Klamath went right back for
another touchdown to make
the score 25-7. Johnson took
the kickoff from his own 12
to the Pelican 47 and in eight
more plays went over for an
other touchdown.
With a minute and a half to
go Johnson returned a punt
from his 30 to the Klamath 37.
Together with Lance Locke
and Bob Davis they went to the
20. Harry spotted Phil Sword
in the end zone. The pass was
completed and Johnson con
nected his third conversion of
the night making the final
score 25-21.
Black Tornadoes
Whip Grizzlies
Ashland and Medford held
their annual football tilt at the
Medford High field Friday,
Oct. 28, with Medford's fast
line and backs paving the way
for a 40-7 victory.
The Tornados took Ashland's
kick-off and returned it to
their own 37-yard line. Seven
plays later they scored to lead
7-0. Later in the quarter they
marched again from their own
36 for a second score.
Medford's two second period
scores came on intercepted
passes with Larry Gober run
ning one back for 50 yards, giv
ing them a 26-0 half-time lead.
Ashland played them on ev
en terms for most of the third
period, but Medford scored on
an 18-yard run late in the quar
ter. Early in the fourth period
the Tornados scored again on a
40-yard pass play to make the
score 40-0.
The Grizzlies then came back
with Phil Sword and Harry
Johnson showing the way on a
sustained drive that carried
from the Ashland 34 to a
touchdown. Bob Davis went
the final 3 yards for the score
and Johnson added the extra
point.
