ROGUE MEWS
WED.. DEC. 22. 1954
BEAR'S DEII
Br Larry Kerr
Here we are once again for
some more observations in the
field of sports.
Gen Parent's aggressive
play and outstanding pass-receiving
has earned him a spot
on the 1954 All -Southern
Oregon Conference team.
Other Grizzlies mentioned
were 2nd team- Harry
Johnson and Phil Sword, and
honorable mention Alvin
Lorenz and Jerry Mickle.
The Grizzlies rough p re
conference schedule is going to
better prepare them for the con
ference dashes with Medford,
Grants Pass and Klamath Falls.
The Bears have played Fortuna,
Crescent City, Madras, and
Bend.
Mustangs Look Good
Speaking of basketball, the
Milwaukee Mustangs look like
a sure thing to win the State
crown again this year. Led by
All-Staters Ted Miller and El
men Bloedel the Mustangs seem
to be the choice to win again.
This year's Bowl game ar-
rangements are probably the
worst in the history of the
game. The nation's first and
third teams, UCLA and Okla-
noma respectively, are both be-
mg forced to set out because
they are champions of two coo-
ferences not allowing their
teams to return to the Bowl
two years in succession.
USC To Play Ohio
This leaves Southern Cali
fornia (beaten 34-0 by UCLA)
facing undefeated, powerful
Ohio State in the Rose bowl.
Nebraska (beaten only 55-6 by
Bowl because of this type of jn a ""W count at haU
arraneement Thev will play t,me' went on to defeat Cres
S'wS lo5 to Navy by ? "y 2-40. t Crescent

Bowl at Miami, Florida. Twice cemter .

Bowl and twice beaten Arkan- Pontoon 8 field goals, and the
sas will play another team 4 he free tthrow hn?"
which has been defeated before Jerry Mickle was the games
this year, Georgia Tech in the
Cotton Bowl.
However, the colorful bowl
pageantry, and some hard
fought football stand a good
chance of giving these games
the excitment they have had
before
My prediction, are:
Ohio State over Southern
California in the Rose Bowl.
Georgia Tech over Arkans
as in the Cotton Bowl.
Navy over Mississippi in
the Sugar Bowl.
Duke over Nebraska in the
Orange Bowl.
The East-West and North
South games should be close
and exciting. The top players
from the schools who are not in
the Bowls (like UCLA, Okla
homa, Notre Dame, etc.) will
play in these top-flight Shrine
Benefit games. Who will win?
Anyone's guess.

Jamboree Brings

Although Ashland's record in
