Girls League Christmas pro
gram held this morning in the
gym was different from the us
ual Ashland high Christmas
program. Instead of a message
given by a local minister, the
Christmas story was presented
by students of AHS.
The program opened with
the AHS Chorus singing, "Oh
Come, Oh Come Emanuel" as
they marched to their places on
the stage. Ave Maria was
then sung by Yovonna Stimson,
senior.
Angel Tells News
First tableau was pictured
with the angel, played by Nor
ma Kerns, senior, appearing to
Mary, portrayed by Donna
Howell, senior.
Second tableau was the an
gel appearing to the shepherds.
The shepherds were: Heather
MacDougall, Betty Blatter,
Carole Lindahl and Dorris Ash
craft, seniors.
A chorus of first graders
from Lincoln school followed
the second tableau, singing
"Away in the Manger." After
this, the curtain opened with
the scene of Mary, Joseph, por
trayed by Gene Long, senior,
the shepherds and a child, pic
tured by Barbara James, senior,
all worshiping Christ. Follow
ing this was Betty Paschke, sen
ior, singing, "O Holy Night.
Wisemen See Star
Fourth tableau portrayed the
wise men seeing the Bethlehem
star. During this scene, "Star of
the East" was sung by Bea Ina
Cluff and Nancy Bundock, sen
iors. The wisemen were Marjie
Reed, Edith Hil and Phyllis
Walker, seniors.
The grand finale with Mary
Joseph, the shepherds and wise
men, and the litle child all at
the manger followed in the pro
gram. The Christmas assembly
ended with the chorus singing.
Silent Night."
Chorus Sings
Ashland High chorus, under
the direction of Bernard Windt,
sang, "Come, Shepherds, Come'
and "Mary, Mary, Where's Your
Baby?" during or preceding the
appropriate tableaus. Scripture
reading by Beverly Barksdale
also accompanied the portrayals.
