Student Council
Attend Meeting
Student Council conference with representatives
from 26 schools was held at Crater high school in
Central Point Nov. 8 and 9, 1954.
Attending the conference from Ashland were
Jerry Mickle, student body president ; Bill Workman,
first vice president; Shirley Rolie, secretary; Lee
Anne Leach, yell queen; Gene Parent, junior class
president; and Mr. Roland Parks, principal. ,
Freshmen Lead
On Honor Roll
Seventy of Ashland High's
563 students appeared on the
honor roll at the end of the first
six weeks of school.
Freshmen led with a total of
23 students; Sophomores fol
lowed with 19; Seniors, 15; and
Juniors, 13.

Seniors Choose Cards,
Sell Christmas Greetings
Mr. Robert Myers, represent
ative of Master Engravers in
Portland, Oregon, appeared at
a special senior class meeting
held Thursday, November 4, to
display a few of his selections
of cards and announcements.
Three samples out of his se
lection of cards and announce-
ments were chosen by Noel .en free to each senior purchas

shown to the senior class. Tha
class almost unanimously chose
a pale blue announcement. The
cost of the announcements will
be 16 cents apiece.

was to improve the work of stu
dent bodies and councils.

sion groups which covered the
school problems such as fi
nances, elections, activiti e s.
projects, organizations and in
ter school relations.
Thursday evening the repre
sentatives attended a banquet a;
which Mr. Parks was toastmast
er. An informal dance followed
Friday the students met again
for discussion reports, evalua
tion of the conference and a
business meeting.
Crowd Views
Comedy Play
A large number of Ashland
towns people turned out for
the senior play, "The Groom
Said No," on November 19 in
the Ashland High School Lit
tle Theater.
Student night was November
18. There was a special rate for
all students of 25 cents.
The play was a three-act com
edy put on by the senior class.
The main character, Steve
Cameron, was portrayed by
Richard Schulz. Steve has just
returned home from fighting in
the war to find out that his
mother, portrayed by Gail
Bowdoin, and his old girl
friend, Clara, played by Donna
Dunkeson, are planning for him
to marry Clara.
Steve was in the hospital and
has fallen in love with Lt. Shir
ley Anderson, Pat Keene,
which causes complications.
Steve and Shirley get together
in the last part of the third act.

Senior Project
One of the projects the sen
ior class has to raise money is
the selling of Christmas cards.
These cards are put out by the
Gibson Distributors in Port-
land, Oregon, and sell for $1.00
a box. The class's goal is the season -with all four classes Approximately 23 peep la at

GAA Sponsors Intramural Games;
Volleyball Teams Now Competing
Girls Athletic Association is
sponsoring several intramurals
for girls this year, among which
are football, basketball, volley
ball, and ping pong.
Final playoffs held Thursday,
November 18 showed the Red
Hots as stars of intramural
football for this year.
Six teams of eleven girls par
ticipated in football with two
games being played each Mon
day night.
Members of the winning
team will be presented with
small football charms for their
victory.

Spy Man Talks
To AHS Students
Mr. Kurt Singer, former
worker with the Federal Bur
eau of Investigation, spoke at a
National Assembly Nov. 2,
1954, about the work of spies
in the government.
Relating some of his own ex
periences and elaborating on
well known spy cases in the
country, he pointed out how
intricate a job it is to detect
spies and obtain sufficient evi
dence to convict them. He in
dicated how inadequate United
States laws are concerning es
pionage in times of peace.
Mr. Singer is a native of
Sweden and has lived in eight
other countries. During this
time he wrote a number of
books.
YELL WON BY SENIORS
Competition yells in pep as
semblies were brought to a
close with the ending of foot
ball season. Seniors and sopho
mores met in competition dur
ing the Coquille pep assembly
to settle a tie, with the seniors
winning.
Seniors will be awarded a
prize for their efforts.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
HAS LARGE ATTENDANCE
Back to school night was at
tended by approximately 200
parents according to Mr. Ro
land Parks, principal.
Purpose of the event was to
give the parents an opportun
ity to learn about the courses,
administration and layout of
AHS.
The welcome was given by
Mr. Parks after which Mr. Ber
nard Windt led group singing.
The officers of the Parent-
Teacher association were In
troduced and money raising
projects were discussed.
Six, 15-minute periods were
held during which time par
ents attended classes of their
children. Teachers explained
procedures followed in classes
and answered any questions
parents had. A fire drill inter
rupted one of the periods.
LETTERMEN HOLD DANCE
The Lettermen's barn dance
was held Saturday, November
13, in the health room.
Jim Sutherlin, president of
Lettermen club, and a group of
the lettermen decorated the
room with bundles of hay and
tree branches.
