Remember Your Responsibilities
With the coming of spring we find that Ashland
High opens doors to many different opportunities
and activities.
All of us should take part in some of these extra
curricular activities. But at the same time let me
urge you to remember the importance of keeping
your grades up.
Many of the seniors, myself included, are only
now realizing how extremely important our grades
are now and will be in the future to our own security.
Often I have regretted past laziness when, all too
late, I find that my poor attitude has kept rich opporr
tunities from me.
Writing from what little experience I have re
ceived in the past, it is rather apparent to me, that
people judge a person not by his potential ability but
by how much he has accomplished with what he has.
When as a senior, a student selects his college it
is natural for him to try for a scholarship of some
type. Nearly everyone has some outstanding ability,
however, a college is primarily interested in a stu
dent's Grade Point Average, WHILE LN HIGH
SCHOOL. They are of the opinion that a person who
possesses extraordinary ability in some field but
fails to attain satisfactory grades, will be of little or
no value to the school. This stands to reason because,
what good could a student do if he flunks his sub
jects? W.E.B.

DRAGNET STRIKES AGAIN
My name is Friday! I'm a
cop!
It was June 16th and the
prince sent out an order to pick
up any girl who could get her
foot in a size 2 glass slipper.
My job; find her!
It was 8 o'clock that night
when I was summoned by my
assistant Monday to 24th and
Kings Street. When I arrived,
he informed me a girl called
Cinderella was working as a
chorus girl at the Palace.
Monday and I worked out a
plan to get the girl without
causing suspicion.
Late in the night we fol
lowed her to a cold water flat
along the waterfront. We know
that it was cold water because
Monday fell in and came out
an ice cube.
Since Monday had to be
thawed out we went back to
the office and got out a war
rant for Cinder to be picked
up the next day.
The next afternoon two of
my best men, Thursday and
Saturday were sent "out to get
her.
About an hour later they
came back with the beautiful
blonde. We asked her if she
could wear a size 2 glass slip
per She said she couldn't. We
gave her the slipper test She
was lying It was a perfect
fit.
We turned her over to the
Prince and our job was done.
Below is the sentence she received.
On June 18th, Cinder mar
ried the Prince and lived hap
pily ever after.

As Spring Appears
When one mentions Spring to
an Ashland High School stu
dent, it means many things dif
ferent than the customary def
inition, such as the start of
the growing season or the close
.of school for another year.
It means the start of the
swimming parties, planning for
the Junior-Senior banquet, or
the coming of Spring vacation
and the State Basketball
Championships, and some of
the following events:
The dawning of Spring us
ually finds the high school
hoopsters nestled very firmly
in the cellar of the Southern
Oregon Conference. Despite
this, Ashland has had its share
of the All-Star players.
After the long winter and
being indoors so long, the com
ing of the sun tempts many
students to take the afternoon
off. Unfortunately, this is just
asking for a f-ee pass Into the
Dean's office.
Toward the end of May, the
lettermen hold their annual
chicken feed and swimming
party. The new lettermen. at
this time, find themselves
blasted over the head with in
ner tubes and then participat
ing in the swimming -suit
scramble. By the time the new
members find their suits, the
old lettermen have already
eaten the choice pieces of
chicken, and all they get is .the
south end "of thw fowl.
Finally, the whole year is
climaxed when the HIGH AND
you a few suggestions.
First of all, we finally have
a gym of our own pd we
thought it would be ideal for
the dance. There are so many
ways you can decorate it, by
lowering the ceiling, etc. Last
year, we found the Elks Club
very difficult to decorate be
cause of the pillars in the mid
dle of the floor and the banquet
had to be held in the same
room as the dance. If you could
hold the dance in the gym and
the banquet at the Elks, it
would provide a convenient in
termission. Many of the schools
near Ashland, for" instance
Medford, make good use of
their gym by holding their
Prom in it.
In case you have not selected
the theme yet, here are a few
of our ideas: the "Mardi Gras"
would be different and "Stair
way to Paradise" could be dec
orated with pink clouds and
angels, etc. other suggestions
would be "Ebbtide," "China
town," "South Pacific" or
"Evening in Paris."
Don't forget that good music
is an important part in making
a dance a success.
We hope you have as much
fun planning this year's Prom
as we did last year. Good luck
because you'll need it.
Some worried members
of the Senior Class.
P.S. Please don't forget our
suggestion about having the
Prom in the Gym because most
of the Seniors agree that that
would be the best place.
Watching the Grizzlies in
action this year, you have no
doubt noticed our peppy yell
leaders.
Taking a survey of all the
yell squad, we came across with
this information:
Barbara Wray:
This cute senior, as you all
know, is yell queen this year.
When asked what her fav

Barbara's favorite pastimes
