Grizzlies Beaten
Twice by Medford
Ashland bowed to the Med
ford Tornadoes 56-41. This was
the 4th loss for Ashland at the
hands of the probable confer
ence champions.
In the scoring trend, both
games resembled each other.
In the first quarter Medford
would run up a considerable
margin; in the second quarter,
however, Ashland would close
the gap. Coming out after the
half, Medford would pour it
on, but the Grizzlies wouldn't
give up and in the final min
utes showed a strong offensive
club.
In the Saturday game Med
ford ran up a score of 19 to 3
in the first quarter, Ashland
came into their own in the sec
ond quarter and narrowed the
margin to 32-21. In the third
quarter Ashland faltered again
Medford now had 42 points,
and scored only one field goal.
The scrappy Grizzlies came
back in the fourth quarter to

BEAR FACTS
Bob Delsman, member of the
1952 Grizzly grid squad, has
been named to the national
high school all-American prep
football squad by the Wigwam
Wisemen of America, an Okla
homa sports organization.
Delsman has, also, been named
to play in the Shrine game next
August at Portland. Bob is the
first Ashland High School ath
lete to receive these honors
since Jerry Langer, who play
ed in the 1950. Bob was the
only Rogue Valley player to be
named to the mythical national
squad.

Edge by Comets
The Grizzlies squeezed by
the Crater Comets 55 to 53 to
run up a 3 win 1 loss record
over them.
Ashland led the game all the
way but was pressed by the
rivals who refused to give up
although Ashland held a 34-2.4
margin in the third quarter.
The Comets looked about on
the verge of collapse, but they
poured on a strong offense out-
scoring the Grizzlies 19 to 18.
This made the score 42 to 35 as
the quarter ended. They con
tinued the drive in the fourth
quarter but fell two points
short as the game ended.

some fast and furious hard
fought volleyball games be

with seniors winning, victories
being two games to one.
Some of the highlights of the
games were Walt McCoy's ar
guing with Coach John Rossi
about the score; Jerry Ward,
in the second quarter when the
Grizzlies broke loose and ran
up a 24-16 lead at half time.
Ashland pulled away quick
ly at the beginning of the third
quarter when Jerry Ward
sank a lay in. Seconds later the
score was countered when
Weber rallied two. Tenney and
Carrigan sank two points but
countered each other. Woods
and Tenney both scored giving
us a 32-20 lead in the first two
minutes of play. The Comets
regained their senses after this
swift play and Ashland had to
give it up in favor of a set
style of play.

they maintained the four-point
lead through to the end of the
game.
Harvey Woods found an eye
for the basket to come through
for the Grizzlies with 14
points. Kile lead the Chieftains
with 13 points.
The game was won at the
foul line as each team could
make but a dozen field goals.
Ashland accuracy in free
throws proved the winning
factor.
In the preliminary, the Ash
land Javees stood of a last
period rally to down the Rogue
River Javees, 48 to 46. Jim
Watrus was high for Ashland
with 15 followed by teammate
Jerry Mickle with 13.
